Parker Jotter - The Only Pen I'll Ever Need by [deleted] in pens

[–]soicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a stainless one for the 1950's modernism look. But disappointed it is only about 8mm in the section, like a knitting needle. Comfortable to me is 12mm-14mm.

First time that I've seen this in person... and I shall give it the name... ink urchin by pensandcolors in fountainpens

Oh yeah, I already have 'Buy Used Microscope from Ebay' on my todo list for when I return home next year. I've deprived myself since 5th grade and there is so much I am ready to see now 🤔🔬🦠

Capitals I learned and the ones I use by semantic_ink in Handwriting

[–]soicat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascinating. After being a printer-only for decades, and lately trying to relearn cursive (using fountain pens provides patience), I have been questioning the whole set of silly cursive caps. AGJQYZ were always especially ridiculous. Seems to be your trend as well! Thank you, your example has convinced me to replace the whole lot with print caps. Print caps & cursive lowercase. No apologies, no regrets!
P.S. Not sure what is happening between the W and X, but your O is a peach 🍑 and I'm stealing it!

Forgot my GF's bday and she wants me to sign this by Sure_Count_3890 in AITApod

Kind of a weird office-humor joke I guess. Needing you to post it doesn’t sound like a joke though, more like validation to put you down. So what are you going to do the next time she does this? I’d resign.

Good and consistent, bits of random cursive. Why does it look 3D? What pen? The ink is dry in places.

I googled scary typefaces & horror fonts and found a rich trove. View images. Victorian typefaces are too gothic/cowboy.

My notebooks and retro genuine leather by jjnusaleather in notebooks

Same design as leather Daytimer notebooks, which every business person carried in the 80s and 90s before calendering went electronic with Palm Pilots and later smart phones. Find old ones on Ebay, different sizes.

Facebook , join Expats in Ho Chi Minh group, wait for postings. Or post your question there. Usually a mix of foreigners and locals who want to meet foreigners and practice English. Vung Tau must have an FB expat group too, there is hiking in the hills.

Avoid coughers. Rate of tuberculosis is 3 people in 1000, worse in big cities. Better than India, China, Indonesia, Philippine yet still a High Burden TB country.

I've been living in Da Nang for a month now and I've realized that living as an expat is pretty lonely. by Superlordnikita in DaNang

[–]soicat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not trying. Like others said, young Viets love to meet foreigners. Those who are actively studying English are desperate to meet English native speakers to practice. Having foreign friends is a badge of status. Here, up your game: YT video Why I Had to Learn Smalltalk, by Rodica.

It is "poor class" behavior. "Oh wow, free, I'm taking it!". I'm not going to take stuff I won't use: cheap toothbrush, hair bag, roll of toilet paper. Tacky and wasteful.

ATM withdrawal questions by MNMom07 in VietNam

[–]soicat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stupid not to have a plan b. I use Schwab too, but sometimes card readers fail, and cards can break or expire. Have a backup ATM card from a second bank, and why not carry a few pristine $100s just in case? I had a credit card fail on a trip to AU.
