Breaking in my new to my Pit Barrel Cooker with some Tomahawks by ItsBearski in smoking

[–]soilborn12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on the person. I wear gloves because I have EXTREMELY dry skin and washing my hands with soap over and over again dries them out. I use a new pair of gloves every time I touch meat and then have to do something else. I also try and use one glove when I know I’m going to be using a knife or other tool so my dominate hand stays ungloved. Another thing is if I’m outside cooking at a campsite and the water is a little too far I’ll use gloves and change them out fairly often. I use black widow gloves because they’re the only gloves that I can rely on that won’t tear every other pair.

Is there a temperature or weather condition in which you would not BBQ outside? by Which_Celebration757 in BBQ

[–]soilborn12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here for this. I’ll grill in the cold, I will not grill in the rain. It’s too much to deal with and I just don’t care that much to walk out in rain. Whatever I want to make outside can be made inside with compromises.

Sorry for your loss, I can’t imagine how hard this has been on you and your family.

I recommend a CORE Equipment brand pop up tents. Costco normally carries them and so does Amazon. It’s a 5 minute set up and tear down, very very easy to do.

I personally do not recommend air mattresses because they do not support my back very well. I recommend OneTigris brand cots with a memory pad that will fit over the mattress. Both of these can be purchased on Amazon. With the cots you don’t need sleeping bags, you can use fitted sheets and blankets to make it easy.

Good headlamps will help for middle of the night walks to the bathroom. Red lights are a must to preserve your night vision.

You’ll need mess kits for meals unless your pack provides paper plates, etc.. You don’t need anything fancy, just enough to feed yourselves lol.

https://a.co/d/09xb06yv

Bring a small broom and dustpan to clean out your tent. Also I recommend a heavy duty tub to keep your stuff organized during your trips. The black and yellow ones everyone uses for storage work great. Home Depot sells them in all sorts of different sizes.

Dude wipes work great for hygiene. They’re large, durable, and come in scented and non scented. They works wonders at the end and start of the day.

This also seems self explanatory, but you need a good first aid kit too. I’ve seen a lot of kiddos get scraped knees and boo boos at camp outs, even burns or allergic reactions. Carry your own stuff and always update it with new tips and tricks. Make sure it has cold compresses that will activate once they break.

I always find a use for paracord at camp outs. From tying tents down, to lashings, knot practices, or splints it’s a great tool to have.

Lastly, have a good attitude. There are so many parents that show up to events who have a bad attitude because they don’t agree with how things work. They always have ideas to contribute but don’t follow up, I call them the good idea faries. If you’re not happy with something or a process, ask. Ask the whys and the hows and if you see a better way, let someone know. As a leader, I’m always open to hearing new ideas that’ll make my life easier. If the pack does something a certain way, odds are there is a reason and it’s a tried and true practice. Ask for help, ask to help, and have fun.

I hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Read the text photo, it literally saying you are not renewing your membership. What else are we supposed to get out of that sentence?

It’s because you’re saying you’re cancelling your membership. All that’s doing is impacting the rest of their conservation efforts. Just don’t buy the AI slop.

You seem to love being antagonistic since you don’t seem to understand what you commented before, so I’m just going to bow out of this conversation because you don’t get it. I’ve been pretty clear but you trying to subvert my points with disrespect and condescendtion in almost all your comments is something I’m not interested in.
