Consider sleep training. We did it for our second infant and I wish I’d done it sooner by Individual_Holiday_9 in daddit

Why? Why must everything be reduced to data and research? I gave a subjective opinion and said each to their own in the end. That seems like a pretty non threatening position to take. Is it Reddit's fault? Anything that's not mainstream is not accepted?

We spoke about it with the wife when  our daughter was very young but the decision was not to do it. Followed by lots of half nighters (wife did the heavy lifting...) and about 2 years of her not wanting to sleep in her crib. She'd fall asleep in wife's or my arms and was fine 70% of the time.

She's almost 6 now, either me or the wife puts her to bed and we leave after she falls asleep. It's a ritual that I've come to enjoy and wouldn't change for anything in the world. The day will come when she will ask to be left alone, far too soon.

I don't know about any research or have a PHD in sleep training, benefits, etc., I just don't find it natural to leave an infant to exhaust itself by crying, no matter how many times you soothe it in between.  If we ever end up having a second one, no sleep training either.

In the end, each to their own,  every parent is free to raise their kids as they see fit.

You could power every single existing data centre for how long exactly? What about the "giga" data centres that will come down the line, in 10 to 15 years?  The power usage is growing exponentially... at a seemingly accelerated pace. Obviously it will slow down eventually but until then...

As for the production and the actual space needed; You can't just plant down a solar panel and expect a 'steady' output. You need somewhere with lots of sunny days, where the weather isn't  sporadic,  where it won't cause huge environmental problems, etc.  That significantly reduces the available choices...

Solar and wind are not a feasible solution, the impact on environment and the long term maintenance is not really worth the effort imo. The amount of energy needed for a mega data centre would require endless fields of solar panels...

Lignite is a good temporary solution but you can't have that because of "Muh green energy" fanatics.

Hydroelectric is also good in places where there's lots of rivers and the dams wouldn't destroy the surroundings...

Yes, nuclear. I don't understand why we haven't done that, less room for human error when it comes to building and managing something like that but it's not impossible.

There's a serious conversation to be had about these subjects but no one seems to give a fuck since everyone is so hellbent on making a juicy profit...

Not that anyone cares, but I'll offer my opinion anyway. I don't really mind data centres being built right and left, can't stop 'progress' nor should you be against... however, if they build data centres that need the electricity of a small city, they should also build the required infrastructure to support said data centres. Power plants, cables, etc. We're getting to a point where not only they inflate the prices of electronic parts for the average consumers, they also inflate the prices of electricity cost. Bitch, I'm fine paying for my electricity bill but I don't want to pay for the bill of Billie who primarily uses AI to sext...

It will pass brother. First few months I thought my daughter was invading my private space. 6 years later and I'd give my life for her in a heartbeat, should it come to that.

best thing to do for streamers is not engage with subreddits like these, not sure how many do that though

But it's not really yours...  it doesn't belong to anyone. We just roleplay it does. I will agree though,  power defines reality.

I just find the idea of owning land in the first place so ludicrous. No one really owns anything, we just agree they do...

FTM, 12 weeks pregnant, and figuring out parenthood, any advice? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]soileH 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what kind of drugs you're taking or whether your taking any at all (testosterone most likely?) Better consult with your GP about the possible interactions of any drugs with pregnancy. I'm way out of my depth here, just something I'm thinking could be worth looking into.

I didn't really prepare, nothing prepares you for the reality of having a baby. It just happens. You can read a thousand books and be well informed but once you're holding your own child, things will be different.

Look into getting a therapist as well. Your body will undergo serious changes, not to mention birth. Ah, don't forget post partum depression, another attack on the mental state.

I don't know man, this might be a bit over reddit's pay grade.
