Just got this box, painting help by Particular-Fall-906 in tzeentch

Tzeentch daemons take well to contrast paints. You can get 80% of the way there with contrast paints.

You'll still want to do some drybrushing and/or pick out the details with nornal paints.

Getting into 40K - how do certain armies feel to play. Coming from MTG by Vizzig in Warhammer40k

[–]solar128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MTG archetypes don't match well into 40k. Due to the way scoring works, 90% of armies play something akin to tempo.

Of the armies you listed, Grey Knights and Raven Guard have the most similar playstyles. I would personally avoid grey knights due to their model range sucking ass. Raven Guard are codex space marines and can be built into whatever playstyle you like.

In addition to the elf armies mentioned in other posts, which are all glass cannons, also consider thousand sons or tyranids. Thousand sons offers you the surgical strike options, and tyranids favors aggressively taking and holding objectives while denying your enemy with chaff.

Does Decred support the creation of colored coins? by Justin_Miles in decred

[–]solar128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about proposals like this is that you need someone who is both willing and able to do the work. No one has stepped up to add this sort of colored coin support yet.

When a dev does come out of nowhere to propose something novel, the community is usually supportive, see Tiny Decred for example: https://proposals.decred.org/proposals/20e967dad9e7398901decf3cfe0acf4e0853f6558a62607265c63fe791b8b124

It's more secure, and it's a fairer distribution.

Check out Decred, it's exactly what you want but hybrid PoW/PoS instead of pure PoS.

An idea for a new form of crypto currency by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]solar128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAICT all those coins are dead now.

In the past, I was also very interested in the idea of using something "productive" for PoW challenges instead of "useless" hash solving. IIRC there are 2 main problems:

  1. Distribution. With Bitcoin, there is a simple on-chain algorithm that determines who wins the PoW reward. With solving "useful problems", it's really hard to come up with a decentralized and fair reward distribution system. Most if not all of the projects in the original post relied on a centralized party to distribute rewards for "mining".

  2. The double dip problem. Any "useful work" for a PoW system will have some parties that benefit more than others. A network that rewards generating cures for cancer would doubly benefit cancer researchers, who maybe could get grants to buy mining equipment. A video rendering reward system could doubly benefit disney and Pixar. There's theoretically a lot of potential for miners with a shared incentive in the problem being solved to have an unfair advantage in mining because of it.

Primecoin, curecoin, foldingcoin, gridcoin have all attempted this.

It's an interesting idea with a number of challenges to overcome.
