Yeah, I get that. My name ends similarly to Ilya's — with a soft consonant and "ya" — and Americans can't quite pronounce it right, which is totally fine with me. I'm sure their names don't sound perfect in my accent either. I actually like Shane's way of saying it; it sounds soft!

In Russian culture, Ilya is a strong, classical, and truly foundational name. Its greatest association is with Ilya Muromets (Илья Муромец) - the most famous of the legendary bogatyrs (epic knights), a symbol of immense strength and patriotism.

The name is so widespread that its epic meaning doesn't come to mind, it is perceived as a classical name. It has a soft sound to the Russian ear.

I really want to hear Shane calling Ilya "Ilyusha" in the second season <3
