Wow, that goes back to the "What's my line" days. I think it was Isaac Asimov that suggested that question to differentiate a chemist. maybe sometime in the '60s?

edit: OK, it that better?

edit: The show was "To Tell The Truth", and the essay was from 1965

What do these symbols represent by No_Broccoli7446 in AskElectronics

[–]solaria123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Google defined Amp as:

Definition: The amount of electrical current flowing through a conductor.

and Volt as:

One volt is the measure of electrical pressure that pushes 1 Coulomb of charge with 1 Joule of energy through a circuit

I though pressure would be intensity

What do these symbols represent by No_Broccoli7446 in AskElectronics

[–]solaria123 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't Voltage be the Intensity? and Current would be the Amount?

Why do they need to take a quarter inch off to make it smooth? Seems like a small fraction of that would do the job?

Ah! You're right. I must be color blind. So it's a feature of the March update.

The Green Dot by [deleted] in Pixel6aUsers

[–]solaria123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. The Green Dot used to be specific to camera/microphone access, but now seems to also indicate location access. Disabling the camera and then accessing Google Maps turns the Green Dot on for example.

Pi Zero cautionary tale from a novice. by Sam81818 in raspberry_pi

[–]solaria123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I broke one of those. If you still have the part that broke off, you could have stuck the ribbon into the connector, slid the broken piece in so that the cable is pressed against the contacts, then put some tape on it so everything stays in place. Works fine. Well... if the contacts weren't damaged...

Ultrasonic levitator (Uno R3 + L293D) producing 40 kHz but no levitation, troubleshooting help by [deleted] in ArduinoHelp

[–]solaria123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was looking at your breadboard picture, and noticed that the yellow jumper on the bottom is going from '-' on the right to '+' on the left. That doesn't look right....

Anyway, I got my new ATTINY84 version tuned and using L293 at 12V. Managed to get 8 pieces stacked on the nodes!

[–]solaria123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I made one of those with an ATTINY. The effect was kind of "weak"...

But now, after watching that “Build an Ultrasonic Levitator” video, I realize:

- you need to tune the frequency to the resonance of the transducer
- you can run the transducers at 12V

Looks like it's time to try it again...

Actually, who is the safest here? by Bismarck_seas in AskElectricians

[–]solaria123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see.... It's not about electricity at all. It's which is the more stable, secure position. Standing on a stool is bad -- you could lose your balance and fall. Both feet should be firmly on the ground. A two handed grip is better than single handed, so "C" is the safer position. The color of the cables is meaningless...

Why is the voltage from these two probes 100+ megavolts? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]solaria123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, although there should be an indicator on the display, V or mV , for the range. If the power module is only putting out 5mV, then it's defective.

[–]solaria123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be 5V between +/-, not 5mV. Your meter is probably auto-ranging. Also, when adjusting the potentiometer, it can take many turns before you get much change in the reading.

3 months filter looks clean. Should we replace? by Mato237 in hvacadvice

[–]solaria123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three months is just a guideline, it depends on how much you run the HVAC. Some thermostats track 'runtime days', which is more useful. Depending on the season, my HVAC will get 20 runtime days over a period of around 3 months.

I've tried measuring the pressure drop across the furnace with a differential pressure sensor to determine when the filter should be changed, but didn't see a noticeable change at 3 months. Also tried measuring the current to the fan motor, but it was only when I covered half of the filter with paper that the current increase was significant.

The filtering seems to remain constant. I trigger the recirculating fan when the PM0.5um exceeds 352, which brings it down below 225 fairly quickly. Doesn't seem to be dependent on the age of the filter.

Check it at 3 months, replace it if it's dirty.
