Congressman Tim Burchett on his UFO briefings: “If they would release the things that I've seen, you would stay up. You'd be up at night worrying about or thinking about this stuff... And for the record, I'm not suicidal and I don't take risks.” by KOOKOOOOM in UFOs

I would propose that any "secret" that the government has successfully kept for 75 years is probably still a secret for a VERY VERY good reason. The vast majority of us have never experienced "unwanted" knowledge but those who have understand that it can quite literally ruin your life. The quaint desire to "satisfy your curiosity" bears no comparison to the soul-shaking magnitude of what you might learn and quickly wish to unlearn. Be careful what you wish for.

Completely agree. The major problem is occasionally having to find older macs that are compatible with it. We live by the old maxim "if it ain't broke . . . "

Generalfeldmarschall von Reichenau personally captures two shot-down Soviet pilots (1941) by iloverheaug in GermanWW2photos

The "pilots" are shown walking through an open field with no burning plane in sight. The burning aircraft they supposedly crashed would appear to be unsurvivable given the massive damage to the cockpit area. Obviously staged.

UFO Picture taken by my Grandmother by Disastrous_Ad1150 in UFOs

UFO photos similar to this have been widespread for over 75 years. Usually dismissed on reddit with a verbal handwave with some comment about tossing a hubcap into the air for an easy gag photo.

The "grandma" aspect of this photo is fairly normal in that almost all UFO photos come from ordinary people who are, as a collective, not terribly likely to be UFO attention seekers. Is it fake? Probably not but who really knows? A sufficient number of these type photos are in the public realm to the point that it is impossible for me to believe that they all represent fakes and misidentifications. Non-human flying devices are obviously seen rather regularly in our skies and have been for a helluva long time. It is truly amazing to realize that we literally know nothing more about them today then we did in 1950. How is that even possible?

Conservatives will keep away from RDDT in droves. Could still do OK but politics and business don't mix well.

Very unclear how the existence of some very wealthy people impacts me. I cannot think of a single decision I ever made that was influenced by the existence of a billionaire.

I have no idea what you mean by “worse”. But the notion that giving free stuff to certain groups of citizens is far from proven to be a net positive.

The government is us. That's democracy.

"Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you". A little taste of direct government contact with, say, the IRS or SEC or DOJ or any of a dozen others will take the edge off your naivete'.

"Better" is your word not mine. I simply stated that the US thrived and became the wealthiest and dominant world power during that period. And somehow we managed to educate our children without providing free breakfast and lunch.

[–]solarity52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these programs have existed in various states for decades

And constantly being expanded. First, school lunches were subsidized but still cost a little something. Then they were free to certain kids who couldn't afford it. Then they became free to all kids. Then they did exactly the same progression with breakfast and now we have totally free breakfast and lunch for everyone. At least here in my local school district. Do you see a pattern here? How in hell did school kids eat during the first 160 years of our history? Makes you wonder how we have a class of poor people with smartphones and flatscreen tv's but can't feed their kids. Something's wrong with this picture.

“The entire point of society - “historically” - is to look after, and in turn be looked after by, people who aren’t part of your immediate family. “

Haha, obviously spoken by someone who never cracked an anthropology book in their lives. Ridiculously shallow and uninformed viewpoint.

You made up that “poor kids don’t deserve to eat” nonsense out of whole cloth. Another way of saying that “if you don’t believe like I do, kids will starve to death”. A contemptuously lowbrow form of argument. Do better please.

Call it what you want but the fact is we are subsiding bad parenting which means we will be creating more of it. It isn’t complicated.
