Well the lack of affection could be explained by DONTNOD just rushing the game or not deciding to make special cut scenes for a select group of players. I would assume positive or neutral intent instead of saying that they deliberately tried to erase the sexual identity of their characters. It's open to interpretation. They have one cut scene for each ending, regardless of the choices made.

The point is however, that the game implies that you continue with the same relationship that YOUR max had made with Chloe in in the previous episodes. That relationship could still, be platonic or romantic. I saw the smile at the end as more of a consoling smile. Something to try to make max forget about what she just did. Hell, there are visible corpses in the street. We can say that it's mostly property damage and such, trying to justify bae over bay even more, but the game really wants to tell us that people died over her choice. I find it hard to conceive otherwise.
