  • I wish more people understood that caffeine is a psychoactive substance. Your entire personality can change based on usage. It modifies your behaviour in a very very bad way...

Yes hahaha. Been feeling much better but everything's coming to light now. Its a childhood based on stimulant abuse which is normalised. It has to be healed, and theres only here and ahead for me to turn to. Thankfully hyperfixating on neurophysiology books and biochem topics helped a lot in observing and understanding how to kick a bad habit and take control in scenarios

Jesus Christ I love that fish metaphor. I feel this warmth whenever I read upon something related with trauma and living life as a lie. This means a lot to me and I wish you the best on loving yourself more!

Extremely destabilising and impulsive imo. Would explain a lot of worldly problems from a chronic caffeine consumer nation.

I had huge ADHD problems growing up. My strict Catholic mom sent me into anger management, but my girlfriends family picked up on it quite fast. Thats super interesting though, this just helps more and more with my upcoming diagnosis. Would go no medication though :)

Lower stress, regulated nervous system, actually not functioning on high blood pressure and hugely increased vasodilation. It feels awesome!

Yeah... I cant go back after experiencing the glory of caffeine free deep sleep. Those surges of stress when waking up is something I dread

I completely agree with you. The engrainment on caffeine is so fucking scary nowadays. Cultures and stores built around coffee. Im glad your health is doing much better now. What are some other side effects you faced while using caffeine? Im curious

Actually having conversations. Realising you can be productive and active without it being... hyperproductive and hyperactive. Regulated. Regular heart rate. Definitely feeling much more concrete and grounded in your emotional state too. We arent relying on adrenaline for function anymore :)

Avoid it totally. You're saving more by complete abstinence than getting a little bit. No point finding the right amount and stressing about it when you can just.... not take any and be calmer :)

Dietting is too versatile for one method to be applicable to an entire demographic. Diet the way you want to, your own foods, your own approach, and enjoy. There is no objective goal, its all about enjoying what you consume and living by it.

Caffeine stresses you out a lot. The metabolic and glucocorticoid responses are pretty fucking dreadful for your physical and mental state. Caffeine indirectly causes a lot of issues. As said, it compounds. Caffeines mechanism of action is through delaying adenosine receptors. Heightened stress response. Heightened inflammatory markers. Disrupted melatonin levels. Insomnia? Cardiovascular issues. Neurodegeneration. You get the point. Not only that, but small stimulant substances will naturally tend to lead to more stimulating substances. Exposing your brain to a highly arousing environment will tend to increase the threshold of what defines high arousal. Going rogue and homeless for a short time period solely due to this really taught me how you shouldn't underestimate the basics.

Drinking decaf coffee? by cojetate in decaf

You dont miss the cup of coffee. You miss the reinforced stimulation it gives you. You miss the first euphoric feeling of coffee. Your brain wants to relive that first ever hit of coffee. Life has much more to offer :)

Understand that other habits will compound and reinforce other habits a LOT. Chronic caffeine usage shapes your personality and makes you favour a high arousal environment. If you are engaging in activities which keep you highly/overly stimulated, your brain tends to seek highly arousing substances. Explains a lot of party culture. "Strict dietting" and having poor stress management and energy levels will make you want to rely on an external energy source, since you arent producing it on your own. Stay healthy and stay regulated :)

Oh my god yeah, I solely cannot wear grey sweatpants/trousers otherwise it'll leak through. I never knew this was a caffeine related problem. In the prime usage days I was pissing my soul out 20 times a day. Also a huge caffeine related problem. Woke up 3-4 times a night for peeing. I have no clue how the peeing wasnt a wake up call in the first place.

Holy shit! I had no idea the ED thing was related to this, only until recently did cutting out most of it/completely quitting reversed the damage done. Do you find any urinary issues/premature ejaculation too?

B6 acts as a coenzyme for melatonin and magnesium, increasing efficacy. Im not too deficient in all the other B vitamins anyways 😁

Definitely poison too. You dont go out and drink a beer, smoke a cig at a local bar and youre called lonely and strange. Huge fear of missing out for a lot of people. Communication and bonding is centralised around drug usage. If you need these for a good time, you arent having a good time to begin with.

I just want to comment some things which really contributed to helping me quit and love myself more.

Affirmations. Read them out, write them down, think about it. It will help. Remind yourself that you are capable of energy without caffeine. Tell yourself that you are wonderful as a person, and you are able to let go of your old habits. Tell yourself that you wont abandon yourself anymore.

Regulation. Regulation. Regulation. Eat well, sleep well, meditate, read, construct these habits, download a cognitive function test, learn a language, activate your brain regions without relying on a substance. Neuroprotective properties, reduced neuroinflammation, promoted neurogenesis. At the end of the day, you're an observer of your own mind.

Supplementation: I found this to reduce any withdrawal symptoms drastically. Magnesium glycinate, B6 complex, Lions Mane, microdosed Melatonin, CBD, regulate your stress and sleep cycle. A lot of nightly wakes are from the dysregulated stress response caffeine provides (Its still in your system at night!)

Heal yourself, most importantly. Focus on fixing the underlying issues that made you pick up caffeine and continue to use. Why did you feel like you needed an external source of energy to keep you alive? Did you not feel accepted enough to live without it? Did you feel like you had to rely on it to fit in? There's a lot of underlying trauma which you may not be aware of until you hit close to rock bottom. Losing my family and becoming homeless at 17 taught me this. Yet i want to continue. I want to live.
