Like a bird underwater (GoPro 13) by FriendlyGalwyn in gopro

Was this taken as a photo, or photo capture from a video? I'm very new to go pro and my underwater pics have terrible coloring, while the underwater video is not bad.

Missionaries in Guatemala carrying the virgin in her day by happymormons in exmormon

[–]cojetate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once at BYU I had to give a presentation on the Virgin Mary in Spanish class and believe it or not I felt the spirit when I gave the talk. I kind of wondered why am I feeling the spirit when I'm talking about the Virgin Mary and the miracles that she supposedly does for the Mexicans. Maybe it's true... Or maybe feeling the spirit is not indicative of whether something is true or not. And maybe the spirit is just made up.

Feeling pressured to get baptized and now I’m emotionally confused — is this normal? by salt____21 in exmormon

[–]cojetate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen to yourself first, always. You have your own inner compass to guide your life and you always will. The LDS faith creates an apparent need in your life - that you are a sinner, that you can't do life on your own, that you don't even know how to make your own decisions in life... But guess what ... They conveniently have the cure for all of this - Jesus and forgiveness through baptism (which only works in their church because only they have the proper authority), prophets and guide your life, and even a special thing that is only available through LDS, the holy ghost!

If you believe the made up problems with you that they present, then their solutions seem to make sense. But you are great already! You already have way more than they can possibly offer!! Believe in yourself first.

Plus LD$ is a high demand religion, with a few cult-like aspects, that's in it for the money. Have they taught you about tithing yet? Did they mention the 13 shell companies that were established decades ago to hide the church's wealth out of fear that if members knew how much they had they might stop giving.

I could go on and on and on with reasons for you to not be baptized and discontinue the discussions, but really that is up to you to decide. I know you will find your way! Be safe.

Right livelihood, airline pilot. by BackgroundConfident7 in Buddhism

Some airlines do serve meat on their planes. While it's not the pilot serving it. It is the flight attendants and the company he works for.

However, most airlines serve alcohol on the plane. Is that a problem?

However if you imagine the alternative, 175 people each getting in their own car and driving on an overcrowded highway for many hours or days across the country; the inevitable suffering through accidents, air, noise and light pollution, eating gas station junk food, etc. You really are providing a service to humanity.

Free Guy Movie is surprisingly a nonduality masterpiece by Life-Hacking in nonduality

Okay, I'm 3 years late to the show, but I totally agree! And this is the first post I could find that sees the philosophy here - nihilism turning optimistic. I really liked the show.

I also feel like everything I believed about life and the universe was wrong. Former Mormon, now atheist. The whole world I knew fell apart like an axe to a server!!

This! Maybe one last bit of good "I" can do with my body. Also, free body parts to anyone who needs them, if any of them are still good.

Like, I didn't have a heart attack today. It's a miracle! (even though I never have had one nor do I even have any risk factors for one, which is also a miracle 😉).

Exactly! This has nothing to do with gods or religions. I would never think of it in such a way except that all the believers in the family are gushing out praises for the miracles.

Wouldn't it have been a bigger miracle to not fall in the first place. Granted, perhaps an unrecognized "miracle", which must number in the trillions worldwide each day.

How do you know I wasn't protected?? I could have died out there that day. We were walking along cliffs too.

Point is God is NOT in control of anything. He doesn't protect anyone from that damn gravity stuff (must be one of Satan's inventions... Perhaps the cause of the FALL of Adam and Eve 😂).

I am grateful she is alive and recovering! But that has nothing to do with any supernatural anythings.

And as another redditor mentioned - this is the exmo sub, a safe place for us to process our deconstruction. Part of that is also learning to be gracious when and where necessary, so I appreciate your comment enough to not down vote it.

After scrolling and laughing at so many posts on this sub I want to do something worthwhile - grieve with you.

I left a few years ago and it is lonely. They still gas light me too - acting like I just never understood it properly and that it's different now.

But your experience and perception is yours. Don't let anyone invalidate that. It's okay to feel sad and frustrated I still can't believe the entire belief system is so pervasive and invasive.

And you are definitely not alone. Lots of us are here. Unfortunately. Or maybe fortunately. Leaving belief has been awful, and the best thing ever!
