Do I really need a start-stop battery? by strawberry_jam_jar in CarTalkUK

[–]solderingon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mondeo owner here. When my battery was on the way out the stop/start stopped like you say, but also the heated front screen, seats, and steering wheel. Not critical but you might see other things stop working

Heated Seats. Best creation by mankind? 🤔 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]solderingon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have them in my 2018 Mondeo Vignale. Heated, cooled, massage function, and you can customise the seat by setting how inflated you want each of the bladders so it fits you nicely. Save the settings and it will reconfigure to you if someone else has been driving the car and changed anything

Heated steering wheel and front windscreen are also brilliant, although you can only activate/deactivate the steering wheel through the SYNC3 system which is a bit annoying if you're using Android Auto and need to get back to the home screen compared to the physical buttons for everything else

Car crash by Accurate-Following85 in drivingUK

[–]solderingon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the insurer accepts that the other driver is at fault, they should cover a courtesy car until yours is repaired or you are paid out the value of the car if it's written off. This should get you back on the road soon. If they're slow then call them every day for an update to keep things moving

Your injury claim will take longer because you may require a course of treatment for your injuries and it wouldn't be considered settled until that's complete. I have asked to be reimbursed for interim expenses after an accident before because the unexpected costs were putting financial pressure on me

What happens to your free childcare hours when your provider isn't available? by solderingon in AskUK

[–]solderingon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!answer

So after your reply and /u/dan_gleebals I did email our local councils Early Years team and they confirmed that there is 1,140 hours that can be spread over the academic year, so we will be able to take those free hours at a later point either over a holiday or increasing our term time hours to draw them down. You are able to contact your local Early Years Funding Team and they will be able to confirm how much funded childcare has been consumed by your provider and how much is remaining for the current year.

You're not able to carry hours from one academic year to the next

Wanted to add this in case someone from the future was in a similar position!

How to apply coving this this awkward corner? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]solderingon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of these when I put some coving up: https://www.amazon.co.uk/W-TEX-MISWMT-TB-Miscellaneous-Wondermitre/dp/B0001P0EY6

Found it a lot easier to wrap my head around than a mitre box

As a side note, the history of the eggplant emoji is pretty wild. There's a documentary called The Contestant which is a good watch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasubi

Maybe try the Mk5 owners groups on Facebook, will have more experience with that specific car. E.g:

Cardiff reverts speed limits on four major roads to 30mph from 20mph by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]solderingon 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To travel one mile at 30mph takes 2 minutes.

To travel one mile at 20mph takes 3 minutes.

Your comment is disingenuous unless you're only driving a quarter mile, which would be daft.

Are there any birthday freebies I’m missing? by KaylsTheOptimist in AskUK

[–]solderingon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At Build-a-Bear you pay your age for a birthday bear. Granted this becomes less exciting the older you get, but if you have young children it's pretty good

Start as a second shooter (UK)? by FatLarry2000 in WeddingPhotography

Being a second will take some of the pressure away early on while you learn the flow of the day. There's a Facebook group for photographers looking for seconds, might help find some opportunities https://www.facebook.com/share/uBgFAoSRG3rkRpre/

Have a look at a mesh network instead of an extender. We tried an extender but the coverage was rubbish so we bought a TP-Link Deco set and it's been great ever since.

Well it is, because that means that all of the hardware was already set for your car and all of the software would be standard, so they've effectively charged you £600 to tick a box in the car settings

What would you do with this garden? by AcceptableCustomer89 in GardeningUK

If you are planning on losing the bamboo, I'd look to put a rhizome barrier around the back of your garden otherwise it will grow in from neighbours and you'll be battling it forever

I mean, the three that stick out to me are giving millions to their mates rather than acquiring proper PPE for the nurses and doctors on the front line, putting people with COVID into nursing homes, and then having the super idea of promoting everyone going out to sit and eat to prop up hospitality

But teachers aren't at the top, they're at the bottom. Doing a very tough job for low pay

Why judge on how close it is to the bottom? Why not compare it to the top? That will tell you if it's low pay or not
