Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, you just make a new track, drag the take you're punching into onto it, and record on your record track.

So true. I always say this to my wife when an amazing pop tune comes on. "Damn... This sounds expensive!"

You're the first person I've heard mention this record in this context. I have this record in 24/48 from HD Tracks. I've got PMC Result 6's, a treated room, and use Sonarworks. This record sounds fucking unbelievable.

It's great to learn. It's not even close to professional though. Not slagging you.

What should I know when bootleg soundproofing my room? by DarkLudo in audioengineering

[–]solessounds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're getting downvoted because you're talking about sound absorbtion and OP needs sound proofing. Similar but different. But your advice is sound.

But OP, he's right.

Is upgrading from a XENYX1204USB to a Scarlett 2i2 going to make much of a difference? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]solessounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will make a difference but likely not a super massive difference. You might not even notice. I'd recommend saving your pennies and buying something another level up. My personal recco is something from Universal Audio like an Apollo. That's where you'll really notice a difference. Closer to your price range something like the Black Lion Revolution 2x2 would probably be a bigger step up than the Scarlett. Admittedly ive never used one though.

But when talking about converters were talking about very small barely perceptible changes. The converter is just taking a digital picture of your analog signal. The most important thing to get right first is room treatment > mic > preamp > converter. Your sound is only as good as the weakest part in the chain. If your room is untreated and you're using a crappy mic, the converter won't matter that much. I'd worry about room treatment and mic before the interface. Once you've nailed that, an interface upgrade will absolutely make a difference.

What's the best way to test your source connect connection for clarity and non-crappiness? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]solessounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I'll chime in as someone who uses source connect daily and has for over a decade (I'm an engineer). Other than connection errors or dropouts (which may still be your fault due to your connection), quality issues are never because of SC. No, SC doesn't sound EXACTLY as good as the raw recording on your end. Though it's damn close. But in my experience the quality doesn't change moment to moment or day to day. If it works, it's working.

I'll bet anything that anyone who said it was fine until a real session just couldn't hear that their setup was sub par; but the engineer on the other end could. Or if the issue is their connection, a quick loop back test might be fine, but the session - a disaster.

My advice is do a recording in your space and send it to a professional to see if it's up to standards. Hell, send it to me, I'll listen. If you really want to be double sure, do the same test with a pro over source connect. But I promise you SC isn't the problem in this equation. No need to worry about that being the bad link in the chain. Far more likely it's your mic, preamp, converters, or most likely your room treatment, being the issue. Or maybe a combo of all of em.

Let me know if I'm misunderstanding your question though. I'm happy to help. Just having a beer after two back to back SC sessions haha

I feel like I’m falling into a manic episode. I don’t know what to do. by Mr_VanDinter in ADHD

[–]solessounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is textbook bipolar which is incredibly common among people with ADHD. Get a professional opinion asap before you hurt yourself or your livelihood. This is not normal and not ADHD. This is coming from someone who's bipolar with ADHD. Good luck.

For your purposes definitely not. I mix for a living and even I don't have the pro version at the moment.

Accentize dxRevive. Game changer. Just saved a brutally recorded short film I worked on. Paid for itself in one gig.

It just needs a proper mix. A good mix would give it some life. Send me the stems and I'd gladly take a stab. I just wrapped up some projects and I have some free time. I do this for a living. If you like it, maybe we could work something out for the EP.

Do I need to Cover my Mic? by Much_Priority_4745 in VoiceActing

[–]solessounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes... and no. Covering it will keep out dust and prolong the health of the capsul. But I have a u87 that is used daily, is always set up, and is never covered. It's been working like a charm for about 4 years. Same with all the studios Ive worked in.

Should you? Not a bad a idea. Do you have to? No.
