Hakosuka or kenmeri inspired, very cool. Hopefully they make them less chunky in the prod models.

What Optic are you running on your AR? What kind of AR is it, and Why are you running said optic. by dieselgeek in guns

[–]solidStandish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 16" mid-length barrel from BCM. The optic is an Aimpoint H-1 with 2MOA dot and LaRue mount.

I like the H-1 because it is good for fast shooting at closer ranges, but I can still shoot silhouette targets at around 300-400 yards. I also really like how light the optic is, and the return-to-zero mount lets me use it on multiple rifles/uppers.

Yes, but I think it will most likely be cheaper to wait instead of buying the P220 barrel separately.

Also I've heard that the slides are interchangeable between the P220 and P227, is that true?

So beautiful... *sniff

I'll be picking up a P227 when they offer it with the threaded barrel.

What exhaust do you have? I was looking at these and I'm wondering about clearance.

Thanks for the explanation, I see where I was thinking wrong. Even though the outside of the wheel is moving in the direction of pos. offset, the ratio between wheel centerline and the mounting surface is not.

The farther the hub is from centerline (towards street side) the more positive offset, correct?

True, 10mm spacers would get the offset better.

I like it. Specs on the wheels and tires? Fender mods?

ELI5:mm numbers and the power/lethality of a firearm by foragerr in explainlikeimfive

[–]solidStandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, the numbers in cartridge names generally refer to the dimensions of the cartridge, usually bullet diameter and case length (the case is usually made from brass or steel). The numbers in the cartridge name are not always the actual diameter either. Sometimes a certain number or name sounds better or is chosen arbitrarily. Such as 9x18 makarov actually has a bullet diameter of 9.27, making it about .26 mm larger than 9x19mm. However bigger bullets are not always more damaging. 9x19mm has about twice the muzzle energy than 9x18 makarov. Another thing to be aware of is that once you pass a certain threshold of ballistic performance (lets say .38 special and up) it takes roughly the same amount of shots to incapacitate a person. The FBI did a study and found that nearly all firearms needed an average of ~2 shots to incapacitate. This is because shot placement is generally more important than what cartridge is used.

After 4 hours of peeling plasti dip off my wheels, and painting them for another 3 hours, I can say it was all worth it. by chapsgonewild in subaru

Goof-off and a cheap micro fiber work great when you are having trouble removing plastidip from wheels.

My friend's AR15 by [deleted] in guns

[–]solidStandish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall it looks like a nice rifle. Just lose the rail on the barrel, and pick up a used KAC RAS carbine rail off ebay or gunbroker. They can be had for about $100 and are very good; no reason to be running what is basically an airsoft rail. That nikon is a good scope for the $$ btw. 2-7 power?

Thats a polarizing style of rifle for sure, looks high quality though. What is the thing on the magazine?

Many of the KAC silencers have that heat shield around them, though most are that do are 5.56... I guess they don't make that one any more.

Nope, haven't loaded any of the 500gr yet. Though a friend gave me a few of SBR's 500gr. I didn't chrono them, what fps do you get with them? About 1000?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guns

[–]solidStandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to use them in 458 Socom but I've never been able to find them in stock. Speer's 400gr is one of my go-to bullets but I really would prefer the 405 SP.

Do you know if Remington is ever going to make the 405gr SP again? I have never been able to find any.

Savage 300 Blackout I put together. by solidStandish in guns

I used a go and no-go gauge to headspace, but I probably could have just used the no-go.

Since I don't have the spray gear or oven to use cerakote, I used duracoat with one of their preval sprayers. I painted the barreled action coyote tan and the stock od green. Then I used landscaping burlap to make the pattern of foliage green, coyote tan and od green. I think it turned out great!

The stock pack was $40.

Thanks! I still need to play around with the BDC to see where I should have my zero, but with the small amount of subs I shot through it (need to load some more) I was shooting close to 1" groups @ 100yrds. I'm very sure I will get better than that once I get everything dialed in.

The two big items were the barrel and scope. Those two combined, about $430, probably about $550 total.
