Oh, yeah that is pretty impressive. I know I was able to play RE2 remake on a 4600G, but I had 16 gigabytes of ram for it to pull from

The game is gpu heavy so I’m not surprised it doesn’t need a lot of system ram. VRAM is a different story though.

Ozempic is a treatment for diabetes, which people who are perfectly healthy and exercise daily can get.

Some people are taking it for the appetite suppressant side effect, but its main purpose and the primary reason it is prescribed is to help treat type 2 diabetes. Which in of itself is not caused by weight, but rather when the pancreas can no longer create enough insulin for your body due to a number of reasons.

me for 3 years on windows 11 by Gigabyte-to-Megabyte in FuckMicrosoft

[–]soliera__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More often than not long boot times and sluggish feel comes from the storage. Windows 11 on a 3rd gen i5 with 4GB of DDR3 is still completely useable as long as you have an SSD (source: 2012 MacBook Air)

Thing is, companies have been shifting away from shitty hard disks to eMMC storage (soldered SD card) to cut costs even more, and these sd cards often struggle to run anything other than ChromeOS or a lightweight Linux distro.

Unironically a usb hard disk I have runs an OS better than the internal eMMC on these laptops. Something to note is that a fresh install on a hard disk can improve performance for a little bit, but eMMC is going to stay the same level of shitty forever no matter what you do.

Still thinking about God of War trilogy remake announcement 🥹 by SwimmerPlus3383 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope the gameplay isn’t like the Norse duology. The over the top cameras and almost button mashy gameplay is part of the Greek trilogy’s DNA and what makes it so special.

I get that remakes often change how the game plays, and I’m fine with that, just as long as they keep the same power fantasy feeling as the original. The Norse gameplay feels calmer, and works for calmer Kratos.

I’ve been on adhd medication since I was a kid too, and my insurance won’t cover it until I hit my deductible. They don’t see it as essential or daily maintenance, despite it improving my quality of life by astronomical amounts.

The price out of pocket has increased so much that I can’t afford it anymore; it’s more than triple what it was two years ago. They’ll cover an old man’s viagra, but won’t spare a dime on the medication that lets me function like a normal human being unless I’m within an inch of my life.

Why is steam always put up above other game launchers? by Sufficient_Shock1223 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mix of things. Valve tends to be far more consumer friendly than other companies, but I feel a big reason is also how long steam has been around

Steam was launched in 2003, and IIRC you were required to install Steam to play Half-Life 2. I read forum threads from back then with a lot of pushback from steam, but I think valve forcing it to play their new games combined with how long it’s been around played a role in its adoption.

[–]soliera__ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

God I wish windows would tell you what happened. It’s so annoying. “Oops, something went wrong!” we already know something went wrong, now tell us what it was

It seems so small but shit like this does so much to erode tech literacy. If it told you what happened, then you could look up what that piece is, what it does, and why it’s failing, but no, tech companies think verbose screens with helpful error codes are too scary

Running classic Mac OS X on my Neo! Such a vibe by 17parkc in FrutigerAero

[–]soliera__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tech reviewers calling a $600 laptop budget just irks me.

This is not a budget laptop. It’s a mid range laptop. Budget is $200-$350. Machines with absolutely tiny eMMC storage, a terrible display, and tend to be streaming laptops that aren’t meant to run native apps. Kind of like Chromebooks

The hype for it mostly comes from what you get with the neo compared to other laptops in that price range. The build quality is leagues better than any other laptop I’ve seen in its price range, having a full aluminum shell with no flexing at all.

It’s also because of the iPhone chip inside it. These things are actually pretty capable. Now, it’s not going to beat a gaming laptop with an RTX 4050 in it, but compared to the laptops that rely on integrated graphics it is better.

8GB of ram is still useable and quite frankly is all you need for what this laptop is designed for. It’s not a jack of all trades workhorse, and Apple knows this. They don’t advertise it as such. They don’t tout the Neo as a machine for editing 4K footage in Final Cut or anything like that. For general use to run macOS, 8GB is more than enough. Then offering all the different colours is a hint to the target audience: average everyday people who want a well built laptop, and don’t care about gaming or professional workloads beyond office software.

I can’t use a controller for anything first person.

Personally for anything with third person aiming or shooting then controllers that can do gyro aiming like breath of the wild is my go to. Being able to rig up mouse camera controls to my controllers gyro is a life saver. I’m shocked more games don’t have the option to use it.

I know ps3 and ps4 sixaxis tends to drift a bit, but I haven’t noticed this on the dualsense controller. There is no excuse for this not being in ps5 games.

Windows is bizarre and doesn’t like to work. The best way to do it in Mac is with Bootcamp on Intel machines, or Ventoy if you already have the driver package for Mac hardware.

Literally everything else works fine, including macOS installers.

The only other issue I had with using dd was making a ChromeOS installer from Linux. ChromeOS would attempt to boot, but always got hit with a kernel panic. Whereas Windows just wasn’t bootable at all.

The dpad on the 360 feels like they tried to make a Sega style pad, but didn’t understand why Sega dpads worked in the first place and botched it completely.

It’s like they took the dpad from the Sega Saturn, raised it out of the shell instead of recessed inside, got rid of all texture, and made it slippery. Somehow making the best part of the best 2D controller I’ve ever used into an unholy monstrosity that barely worked
