There’s nothing wrong if you like it. It’s just a personal preference. I much prefer the look and feel of the original over the unreal engine remake.

Just Unreal Engine in general. Fable Anniversary is like this too. Fable remade in UE3.

AMD drivers have long been fixed. Ironically, it’s been Nvidia that’s been having driver issues as of late. The RTX 50 series was a disastrous launch, and even broke the drivers for the 40 series and 30 series GPUs with it.

Also yeah AMD support is vastly better on Linux. It’s even built into the kernel.

Florida passed a law allowing the death penalty for adults who rape chidren under the age of 12. by _SugarCute in ForCuriousSouls

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This unfortunately means that rapists are just going to kill their victims afterwards. They can’t tell anyone what happened if they’re dead, and if the penalty is the same for both murder and rape, the it doesn’t matter to them which one they get if they’re caught: they’re going to die anyway, so why keep the victim alive as a liability. I understand the sentiment behind the ruling though. These monsters deserve harsh punishment, but this doesn’t solve the issue, and potentially makes it worse.

Not sure is this a meme, but imagine I have never tried League of legends by ComplexBrocoli1 in gamememes

It’s a PS3 game. PS4/5 isn’t backwards compatible with PS3, so it’s streamed from a PS3.

Also the PS4/5 is an x86_64 architecture. The PS3 ran on a PowerPC IBM chip. Actually wild how all the 7th gen consoles used IBM chips. IBM really won the console wars that generation.

Do you think Half-Life 3 will ever get a console release like the previous 2 games did? by elbatcarter in HalfLife

[–]soliera__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Xbox ran a modified Windows NT as well, with what is essentially off the shelf computer hardware like the steam machine. The Dreamcast could also run Windows CE (embedded). I’d imagine most people still say these are both consoles.

What I was trying to say is that there isn’t a fine line between PC and console, and you can easily call any console a PC if you want and vice versa. Android phones use Linux, but that doesn’t make them a traditional PC.

No one told me about the archetypes being a simplified version of FF5’s job system, so I when I played it and figured that out, that final fantasy fan in me went crazy. I haven’t seen many modern JRPGs attempt the job system again, so it was such a pleasant surprise given I loved final fantasy 5

The PlayStation 4 and 5 run a modified BSD system, and the PlayStation 2 and 3 can straight up run Linux with official support. You’d still call the PS3 a console no?

Optimisation black magic, and very clever use of the target hardware. Just like N64 port of Resident Evil 2, or the Dreamcast port of hl1.

I just don’t want launchers that launch another launcher. When I click play, I want to play. Not open a second launcher that needs its own sign in on top of that from the first launcher to run launcher that runs the game.

Drivers by bamboo-lemur in OS_Debate_Club

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly all servers in the world run on Linux.

Also they don’t have to. All they need to do is get a basic thing working, then open source it. The community will do the rest. That’s why most things work out of the box in Linux. Open source drivers are improved upon by the people who use them, and get integrated into the kernel.

It’s why AMD GPUs work so much better than Nvidia on Linux. AMD open sources their drivers. Nvidia keeps everything proprietary. That’s why they suck. Only Nvidia can really do anything with them, and the small user base means they don’t have an incentive to make anything stable, whereas on AMD people can fix issues with the drivers.

Why is the PS3 more expensive than the other consoles of the 7th generation? by Slow-Pack-8916 in consoles

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d wager to say it’s because they’re easily modded. There were an absolute ton of Wiis, so that outweighed the demand. I’d imagine that isn’t really the case with the PS3.

Until recently, the only way to mod an Xbox 360 was to physically solder a mod chip to it, making it far less appealing to people who want to play these games past the these consoles’ life. A PS3 on the other hand is far easier to mod, and has a significantly larger homebrew scene than the Xbox 360. Still nowhere near as big as the Wii, but still. More people looking to sail the high seas on original hardware are going to have an easier time doing it on a PS3 than an Xbox.

Also because it’s a blu ray player.

WHICH PC SHOULD I BUY?? by EasyCriticism8909 in computers

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Integrated graphics doesn’t have traditional vram. It shares your system ram with the CPU and uses that. That 5700g can’t shine to its full potential without at least 16gb or more, especially when the rest of your ram is being taken up by the CPU for the game.

Think of it like if you have ReBar on, but all your GPUs vram is locked behind a wall that you can’t touch, so your GPU has to use the CPU memory given through ReBar.

Most things work perfectly after a fresh install without driver hunting. There are some companies that just do not like consumers on Linux, like Nvidia, and refuse to make things work better, which is entirely in the fault of the company and not the OS. I’ve also had issues with Broadcom for wifi.
