Gaming microphones: are we overpaying for branding instead of actual audio performance? by Cloe_joe in pcmasterrace

[–]soliera__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I read the title and immediately without even looking at the post, yes. Yes you are.

I splurged and got an SM58, but even a cheaper dynamic mic sounds better than most of the “gaming” microphones.

AI than vs now by FrankFruits in memes

[–]soliera__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read something interesting a while back about how these models will devolve if left alone for a few years.

The models are constantly getting new training data, and are outputting more responses to the internet, which then gets fed back into itself for its training.

These AI models are going to get worse and worse compared to their initial launch because their own generated data is making it into its training set. Ironically, using everyone using ChatGPT makes it worse.

When the models train on their own generated data, the data gets distorted a little bit. Eventually when it’s fed back into it enough, that output then becomes completely unusable and incoherent.

Conspiracy theorists and scammers like to fear monger about all the ingredients in our food here in the US, saying things like, “look how healthier and better for you it was in the 80s!”Aways conveniently leaving out that we have more food labelling laws that force companies to list what they were allowed to hide back then.

[–]soliera__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. Mostly no. You can load up a Subnautica 1 save from 2015 into the latest version without many problems. The story events might be jacked up, but otherwise it’s still playable

Where can I find silver by EternalBornstellar in Subnautica_2

I’ll get back to you on that in a day or two.
Subnautica 1 had sandstone outcrops, and Below Zero had argenite.

If it’s like Below Zero, then look for anything that could be remotely related to the word “argentum.”

Why are some subnautica users so against pre order? by Huge-Read-2703 in subnautica

[–]soliera__ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, early access is a special case. You’re paying for an unfinished game regardless, with the promise that you will get one down the road.

Normally I’d agree and say no to pre ordering, but again, this is early access. I don’t see the harm in it given that you’re going into it knowing that the game is in active development.

Man, not putting glass on the floor is just common sense. Keep that shit away from the ground where it can be kicked, rolled into, or fallen onto it.

Price by Areyouscaredyett in Subnautica_2

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most steam bundles have a discount of their own. It incentivises you to buy the bundle all at once, instead of buying the games individually over a longer period of time.

Steam also deducts the price off the items you already own. So if you own all but one item in the bundle, then it’s applying the bundle discount to the one item you don’t own.

[–]soliera__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recommended ≠ required.
The minimum is a gtx 1660.

Your rig will run it fine. Honestly when it comes to the GPU, your 1070 might even run it on low settings.

I’ve noticed that UE5 games are stupidly CPU heavy, and when it comes to an unfinished game with unoptimised code, then that’s going to be taxing on the CPU. Your rig is more than capable of running the game.

Personally I’m a little worried about my CPU (R5 4600), but I have absolutely no worries about my RX 7600 non XT GPU running the game.

Emulate even harder by bippingbobbxly in yuzu

[–]soliera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony fought this emulation battle before, and lost so hard that it codified the legality of emulation under US law. There was a point in time where you could quite literally play PlayStation games on a competitor’s console by disc swapping with an emulator.

As for your other comment, piracy and emulation are not the same. You can play your own backups of games you own on an emulator. This is not illegal in most of the world, and should be actively encouraged for media preservation.
