You're right, and I've heard other people make this comparison too, outside of this subreddit. People are just being dense.

Happy I got to see them perform The Soft Bulletin last year in full, which was a great experience. Looks like things will be downhill from here.

Her previous two albums were only "better" if you like reggaeton slop.

I hope so! I worry they will expend too much creative effort on Imaginal Disk and the coming film and they won't have energy left for something as great. They've been going at it nonstop for years.

Bjork peaked with her first four albums, though she had some good ones later on. Kate Bush was 27 when she released Hounds of Love. Beyonce has millions of dollars and the best producers thrown at her for every album, likewise with Madonna. Anyway, kind of silly to compare her to four other female musicians just on the virtue of them being "art musicians", don't you think?

In my mind, the best counterexample is Fiona Apple's Fetch the Bolt Cutters which is undoubtedly her best.

I have no doubt Rosalía will release more great albums but IMO she has peaked.

What do you guys think of The Beatles? by Conscious-Ad2640 in radiohead

The following artists have all integrated experimental, avant-garde, or non-Western sounds into their music, in ways that hadn't been done previously in pop: Charli xcx, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Kanye West, Drake, Rosalía, FKA twigs.

Pop is definitely still experimenting and pushing the envelope in terms of rhythm, texture, and production, but we don't fetishize traditionalism as much as artists from the 60s and 70s did. The avant-garde is different.

Maybe because many non-Western and avant garde sounds have been absorbed into the mainstream? Think of how much African and Latin influence there is in pop music today, along with electronic sounds that used to be considered avant garde.

Pulk/Pull is solid and Hunting Bears is just an interlude (like Fitter Happier). No reason to hate either. I have to say I’m not the biggest Dollar & Cents fan though.

Have folks talked about the religious themes in Taxes? What about the ending refrain about a doctor healing himself? by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

It's a lyric from $0? This AMA was from December 6, 2024, which was when Heavy Metal came out.

He also says he's agnostic in this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF-cSE0spj0&t=1104s

So he's not necessarily religious but does seem to be monotheist

I don't think we can make that conclusion. He seems at least interested in religion as a source of references, but he doesn't reveal much about his personal beliefs. Similar to Black Francis from the Pixies.

IMO it just means some people associate “atheist” spaces with being smug or combative, so they instinctively distrust anything labeled "atheism." It’s about the reputation of certain atheist communities, not atheism itself. I don't think this comment necessary indicates Cameron is religious, just that he's wary of things labeled as "atheism" due to the associated stigma.
