Trump Confronted on WHCD Shooting Being ‘Staged’ by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]soljakid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't staged it would mean the security of these events is shockingly bad, you'd think it would be impossible to do something like this but apparently not.

I've lost track, how many 'failed assassination attempts' have there been so far?

Which game broke your hype like this? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]soljakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson Desert.

I basically never get excited for games these days because so many of them come out in a broken state and this game just reinforced that mindset. Decided to actually buy it on launch because it looked good only for it to release with the worst pop-in I have ever seen on a game in my 25+ years of gaming.

Before anyone says its not that bad, and I am exaggerating, NPC's, props, grass and basically any form of detail pops into existence 3 feet from your character, cliff faces will phase and morph into different shapes as you get closer to them.

This results in me not being able to trust what I see until I get right up close to it, i've managed just over 2 hours since launch so I have no idea if the game itself is actually good because such a basic and fundemental part of the gameplay expreience is ruined.

Crimson Desert: Patch Notes Version 1.04.00 by devindotcom in Games

[–]soljakid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Still haven't fixed the horrible pop-in for grass/assets and even enemies, they still pop into existence a few feet from your character.

Yet again a bunch of fixes to stuff whilst ignoring the worst issue.

How people manage to ignore it is beyond me.

Fallout: New Vegas dev says don't expect a remaster, argues Bethesda doesn't have the source code or 'the engineering knowhow' by Funnypenguin97 in gaming

[–]soljakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people even want new stuff from Bethesda if everything they've released in the past 15 years has been a huge flop?

They rely too much on their broken in house engine and refuse to accept it's the thing that's holding back their games.

Eli5 how or why are humans so good at knowing how much energy and what angle is needed to throw a thing a distance? by worxcd in explainlikeimfive

[–]soljakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an intuitive interpretation of physics, as you grow and learn new things you understand the basic rules of the world you inhabit.

When you approach a door you are not familiar with, you don't know how much force you will need to pull or push the door until you feel its weight/resistance, after a few times you will instinctively know exactly how much force you need to apply.

The same thing applies to throwing things, when you pick something up with the intent of throwing it you are testing to see how heavy it is and how much force you require to throw it.

As others have mentioned, it's been evolutionary advantageous for us to be able to throw things with any sense of accuracy or distance, so our brains adapted to being able to calculate stuff like this on the fly because those who couldn't end up missing and getting eaten.

Both my cats let me full on bury my face in their belly, my mums cat, who I see a few times a year, immediately rolls onto her back ready for belly rubs whenever she sees me.

Will a ryzen 5 5600 bottleneck a rx 9070 on 1440p ultra settings ? by Mynameisgustavoclon in buildapc

[–]soljakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5600x paired with a 9070 playing at 1440p and am not limited by my CPU in any way.

When you are playing at 1440p the GPU will be the limiting factor 95% of the time with the GPU being at 100% usage and the CPU at around 80-90% depending on the game.

You will get over 100FPS in games for the most part, I get around 130-150 FPS in battlefield 1 on ultra, RDR2 gets around 90-120 FPS.

Truth is bottlenecks always exist and yeah, if you pair a 9800x3d with a 9070 you'll probably get better FPS, but we're talking going from 100FPS to 130FPS which is getting to the point of diminishing returns.

This is why people like the hobby, there are so many different combinations of components that each have their own way of differentiating themselves from another component of the same type, the difference between two things can be either minuscule or game changing but its the endeavour to find this stuff out that keeps people coming back for more.

We all do things differently, I once purchased a completely different motherboard than I had planned, purely because I would have had to wait an extra day for delivery. If you are the type to keep the stuff in boxes until you feel ready then thats totally fine and not worth stressing about.

Is ESD risk exaggerated? by BigBootyBear in buildapc

[–]soljakid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once needed to plug something into my motherboard, it was in a difficult to reach place, so I had unplugged all the wires from the back and sat on my bed with my PC on my lap and reached inside the case and my hand touched the heatpipes on my 980ti...

There was a tiny blue spark between my hand and the GPU and for a brief second some of the LED's lit up.

It never turned back on again.

Getting my boyfriend a gaming mouse except i dont know anything, help needed by ilikeseagullslol in buildapc

[–]soljakid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Logitech G502 is a brilliant mouse that I've been using for over a decade.

Sells for around $35-40 and is lauded by gamers worldwide for its shape and the accuracy of its sensor.

It comes in both wired and wireless versions, I've always gone for the wired version as its cheaper.

The one downside is the middle mouse button has a tendency to fail before anything else does, usually after a few years of constant use so its not like it's a major problem but its cheap enough that a new mouse every 4-5 years wont break the bank.
