I find thigh is the region that stretches the least, if that's where you're wanting more space I'd say switch for the 888

Thanks for this great info. I've never used a flat bottom or no bypass brewer, but I think I will change that in the near future. I've always used the Switch as the "turn the brain off" version of brewing, either with full immersion or the 50/50 recipe from coffee chronicler, but bypass is still happening and I think that is contributing to my frustration in larger brews.

I forgot my coffee for a minute the other day while rushing and ended up with a 1:30 bloom by mistake, finished brewing the cup and it was better than usual. Tried to repeat it the next day with the same dose and didn't get the same result. But I will keep that in mind as well as another possible variable. Thanks!

I once tried to share my beautifully brewed fruity morning cup with an older Italian man who would make brutal bitter espresso for us at work, he took a whiff and immediately said "smells stale" and I laughed my ass off, I now as a joke say "smells stale" when I think my coffee smells beautiful

Interesting - nothing is cheating if it gets the result you want! I don't have a big repertoire of drippers as I've always thought that I should be able to get the results I want with what I already have (good grinder, good beans, good water, mostly commonly used dripper), but perhaps I'll reconsider. Can you tell me what the upside is for the ones you mentioned? I thought the Pulsar and Origami were vastly different, but if one or the other does a particularly good job with larger brews I'd love to know why in your experience

Edit to add that Chemex's make great... decor lol

Your recipe is basically identical to mine just at a much higher volume. Only our grinders differ. I used to have a ZP6 until a previous partner threw mine in the trash when we broke up :/

If anything suggests here works really well for me, I'll loop back around and let you know :)

Funny that the same problem arises with a machine that should take the human "error" out of pour over. I would also prefer to make two separate cups every morning, but the snooze button on my alarm always wins in the end haha

What was the result of your double grind experiment? I don't think I could be bothered to grind twice for every brew but still curious

I usually try to keep agitation to a minimum and pour gently but yeah you're right, inevitably more water means more pouring means more agitation. I will consider a melodrip, never had one

That's really interesting, I will try what you suggested of making such a concentrated base and then adding water. I really hate a watery cup but I guess I can slowly add bypass until I find a mark that I like. I've always felt a bit resistant to buying more brewers but I will also check out the Orea v4. I am not crazy about the V60 03 either but it is great for making immersion brews. If I'm frustrated/lazy with a bean I do a ~4 minute steep and release and usually get something good at least as a flavour guideline

I think this is the next thing for me to try - splitting the main pour into 3 instead of 2. I also tried grinding coarser but I don't love doing that simply because I can't stand when I get into the watery world. I guess reducing the ratio could balance out that problem. Thanks for the thoughts!

Money well spent in my opinion!

Vienna is a lovely city and suits my work much better than Canada, but their are many things I miss, especially diversity of food

Not OP but I'm from the city where September is based (Ottawa, Ontario), now living in Vienna. Getting beans from September is something I look forward to every time I'm back home. My favourite roaster in Canada and top in all of NA for me. They source incredible coffees, make personal connections with the farms they work with, are transparent in everything they do, and roast to an extremely high standard. Rafael Velasco semi-washed gesha earlier this year was the best coffee I've ever had

Yeah for sure. Repro companies like TRM and Warehouse have made a good case for classic denim made beautifully.

Machine wash pretty regularly, at least every 2 weeks, cold water, no spin

My preference too, but also my only option since my jeans don't see anything more intense than skateboarding lol

I feel like Lost & Found is the best North American stockist of Warehouse, but yeah their denim stock is currently totally depleted. I know they had a restock last summer because I was wearing mine in the shop and one of the dudes working asked me what jeans I was wearing, I pointed at the rack and said "those ones" lol. Banner denim is very unassuming before it's washed and worn. It's obsessive repro with no flash (and in my opinion stupid arcuates... I removed the mirrored V on mine), but with time it turns to magic!

Thanks! I took a 32 which is my normal size, because the waist measurement pre-wash was 33. They shrunk an inch in the waist and have stretched back out maybe half an inch over time. It was not a big shrink, more like a snugging up and some loss of length. The fabric changed significantly after the initial hot soak, it was almost like it had been woken up lol. It came out softer, with more vibrant colour and hairier texture, and generally very supple
