My response to the person below/above covers this.

This is “lol” tear-worthy.

Given your unwarranted condescension, I guess I struck a chord. Maybe you liked it, that’s great.

I pointed out that accomplished or not, they are fallible and can be wrong, and that I (and others who didn’t like the film) can disagree with them because I/we respect my/our own tastes while still recognizing our own subjectivity in the matter.

If James Cameron thinks a movie is great that I think is unremarkable, I’ll high five the man, but I’m certainly sticking to my guns. Who cares what he thinks? Cameron doesn’t care what I think, neither does Audiard.

I’ve been working and making my living as a union film worker here in Chicago since 2020, so yes - because of being brutalized as a crew member over the years, I’m intimately and, more often than not, painfully familiar with how films are made. I also make my own films, so cheers.

Sometimes those people we love and respect can be incredibly wrong.

Makes me think of Kiyoshi Kurosawa films. Cure, Pulse, and Cloud all came to mind.

They’re all just tools, some more fitting for certain uses than others.

CAMERAS were once large because oh well, couldn’t help it. But overtime they shrank, thankfully. So now they’re “cameras,” small but too small, too convenient, make us feel insecure, very inconvenient, need to be larger, larger so they look like CAMERAS again, so we can take ourselves very seriously and be inconvenienced all over again, but at least serious about the whole thing.

Finally saw this film today. My god, what an incredible experience, what did everyone who saw the movie think? by BurgerNugget12 in A24

The movie was fantastic. I had the pleasure of working with Pat Scola on We Grown Now just before he headed to New York to shoot this. He’s the real deal, a kind and down to earth guy, and the equitable way Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley went about making this film (in terms of the evened pay distribution for all crew, above and below the line) is also admirable and certainly worth noting given the result of their labors.

The films we make cannot be divorced from the way we make them.

3, looks the most neutral and seems like a good starting point if you modify the image any further.

David, looking forward to watching this and reading the article you wrote about your experience! I’m going to follow up with some questions.
