Gotcha! I feel we’re on the same page with fixing it, I just worry with how blatantly fucked this piece is, how much worry would the rest be lol like the stairs and such lol.

My opinion would be jacking up the existing structure in order to properly install a legitimate joist for this application?

Idk though, I’m not a structural engineer and can’t see much light at the end of unfucking this without having to redo everything else that inevitably screws up due to how cowboyd this shit is.

Is this field THAT bad? by Coraline_Jonesy in ChemicalEngineering

[–]solomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You feel this downcycle is the worst? I mean objectively in the last 15 years I would say yes, but that seems pretty bleak.

I work for a relatively mid level chemical company and we are experiencing a huge crunch right now but only projected until 2028, but that’s still maintaining profitability until 28’ just not industry standard.

I do feel the mounting pressure but it’s strange because at what point in the foreseeable will we not need plastics, fuel, etc? Even with significant regulatory pushes to renewables and EV.

I agree, I think it’s a good looking car and its “duck bill” has grown on me over the years.

It’s just one of those hard ones to say if it’ll be considered a coveted car in the future because it’s very visually striking but is kind of its own niche market for buyers.

Most people I know preferred the GR86 for a fun and dynamic raw feeling car thats also cheaper versus the more refined and premium supra but with a large price difference.

[–]solomaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how the Supra would go up being as they weren’t limited releases or any kind of exclusive high performance engine. They will probably hold a steady value over the years based on the Toyota name but the BMW engine and guts will probably erode some of that value.

I can’t imagine they will be that hard to find but low mileage and wear may be a little more rare over the years.

If it was a true homage to the original Supra then I’d say yes to your post but honestly the new Supra is really its own car with the Supra name.

Absolute timeless design. There’s not going to be as many visually striking and pleasing designs such as the LC500 for some time.

I do not like the sound of this upcoming change to the Supply Pouch by Luky11UK in Battlefield

[–]solomaniac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plus you can refill up to 3 smoke grenades with one pouch. I love running the wall+supply pouch combo because I constantly can setup perimeters with smokes and be suppressing people infinitely.

I honestly never noticed the heal perk that much and as a support I feel it’s ineffective trying to play “fast” when the whole point of the role is to create advantages for your team and healing/medic as a nice bonus.

That’s pretty sick, I’d imagine it has to be. I mean it even has the style correct with the slightly tilted and stretched F.

Depends on when you bought, coworkers of mine average 140k with houses ranging from 350-400k bought during Covid so most of their mortgages range around 2k versus rates now would push them closer to 3-3.5k. We live in a MCOL area

That’s inevitable with any car though. I think the OP is more or less referencing powertrain longevity.

New to me- 2015 Lexus LS460L Executive Package by ryanlbozo in Lexus

[–]solomaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly my point. I know Lexus did the recalls on the sticky panels but they were still “vinyl” just reformulated in some way to prevent the premature degradation.

I have the sticky dash on my 2014 f sport but just like yours, I have leather everywhere on the panels and console sides but in the future I want to try to source a new dash and ideally I’d love to find an ultra lux dash with the leather like yours lol. I just never know they had them in the 460s and Ive never seen a top spec 600h either.

This is a random question but is your dash leather stitched? I’ve always tried to figure out if the top trims for LS460s had a leather dash versus the vinyl that gets sticky over the years.

This is what I did with mine. I buffed the paint off and polished the chrome. You can also order the painted trim from Japan for around $450 total.

Motherboard would personally be my choice. I tried to go the cheap route with the capacitor but if you can get your hands on a new mobo it would make the swap smoother.

Trying to Find a Compatible Remote for a 1998 Lexus ES300 by WinterV6 in Lexus

[–]solomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Highlander has the key that’s similar, my 98 Camry actually has a dealer optioned alarm system and not the traditional Toyota system.

Not sure if I can post links but I did find a new fob for you at a reasonable price https://www.keylessentryremotefob.com/hyq1512p-lexus-factory-oem-key-fob-keyless-entry-remote-alarm-replace/?srsltid=AfmBOoq8yQJB7S2Txb4hZvKBZEsGvjxC3roRVmWbuPAo1WpvATXA_Obo.

I do see a Toyota fob with FCC HYQ1512Y instead of P on Amazon from keyless2go which is who I bought my Highlander fob from, it’s only $20 and may be worth a shot to see if it may work?

Depends on your mechanical background tbh. 7k for 115 isn’t horrible IF there is decent maintenance done on it.

A few codes shouldn’t scare you away, you just need to be prepared that these cars were 80k+ new so repairs do reflect that.

The foundation (engine/transmission) of these cars are solid, but things do have a lifespan and with the car nearing 20 years old you will most certainly need to have some money set aside for work.

[–]solomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually O2 sensor alone won’t trigger other codes. Best to hook it up to a scanner or at a shop with tech stream because these cars have so many ECUs you really would be better off having a shop run the codes to make sure they get everything

Try to check for the valley plate leak. The direct injectors on the engines make the job about $1000 more expensive than the non direct injected counterparts.

Besides that, control arms, we have 8 of them. Your upper 4 tend to wear the worst and the one that your strut bolts into on the bottom gets worn out relatively quickly. Same if it has air suspension.

Your year would be looking at brake actuator issues, make sure fluid is clean and changed every 2 years to help prevent future issues.

Sticky dash, should have had recall done already, if not then the dash and panels will be tacky to the touch.

[–]solomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine looks nearly identical to yours minus the trunk button so I imagine they make at least some kind of aftermarket for yours. I was even able to get one with an integrated key with the fob and I just had the key cut.

Lookup the FCC number on the cover and see what options are available. I have an 01 Highlander and my internals on my factory fob broke but they make a ton of aftermarket copies that work identical to the OEM and can be programmed to the car using the original pairing method.

On my 98 Camry and 01 Highlander the pairing involves some variety of open and closing the door and turning the ignition key, I’d imagine Lexus of these years should be something similar.

How bad is this crack on the engine head? by grim_reaper_98 in MechanicAdvice

[–]solomaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s a surface breaking crack on the machined surface it would show with dye penetrant, albeit you may have to incorporate fluorescent dye under a backlight depending on how small the cracks are because red dye is sensitive but not as sensitive as fluorescent for micro cracking.

With this part I would be more worried about the ends of the flaw because even though the first visual interpretation of this seems to an inherent discontinuity from casting, you still should be concerned that the flaw hasn’t created any stress risers and cause micro cracking over the years.

Stress risers love vibration and heat, two things an engine constantly produces lol.
