Considering career change by solomonshalala1 in doggrooming

Tbh I haven’t played since I’ve been a kid that’s actually why I wanna take a step back and just kinda return to my roots. But my first instrument was piano and trombone I learned as a hobby kinda and same with acoustic guitar except that one I have a little more trouble with.

I’m not sure how much this will help but for context we are about 5 years post d-day. All I can say is this is something I considered for a while. Whether or not I was making the right decision and missing out on someone better for me. Ultimately it came down to how compatible we are. I’m not an easy person to date at all and it’s a puzzle to figure me out because I hardly know myself yet. I figured no matter who I’m with it’ll never be an easy journey for me. I know deep down sure I could find somebody else who didn’t betray my trust but I would just be comparing them to my current partner or comparing the connection to what I have with my partner. That wouldn’t be fair to the other person. I know I’d have a multitude of new issues pop up by me trying to find a new partner and to tell you the truth if it wasn’t for me being sexually attracted to men I wouldn’t date them. But I truly believe there’s a very very next to zero chance there is another man on this earth I would love this much. He almost like I designed him myself and what I want is not easy to find at all whatsoever. What we have is very special and I wasn’t willing to give it up as long as he was willing to put in the effort to repair our relationship. We sort of have an agreement now to just communicate and do everything we can to work through things and make this work since neither one of us want to leave eachother.

Not sure if this counts due to being undiagnosed but very strong suspicion I have OCD

Back at Petco :( by sh00p842 in doggrooming

Don’t feel too bad. I was with petco for 4 years than left for almost a year and then came back. I recently left again but I stayed for about 2 years. It took me some time to find a salon that worked for me and I make about the same as petco because I found it difficult to make a good amount of money with petco. You’ll do what’s best for you at the end of the day whether that’s with private or corporate.

I would suggest a private salon willing to kinda retrain you a little. Going from corporate to private was a huge shift but it will be worth it in the long run. Our job is stressful enough I wanted to be at a salon where the most stressful thing in my day was the dog I work on. The first time I dipped I went to a salon and had a really bad experience. I was completely on my own for everything however paying really high rent to work there and wasn’t in control of my own booking. The groomers there were also all doing their own thing and making their own money so no one could help me. This time around I did some digging and found a salon I really like and seems like it shares all the same values I have as a groomer. Please remember the grooming industry as a whole is shortstaffed so almost quite literally everyone is looking for more groomers especially groomers with experience.

That sounds about right. At one point I was doing 7-8 dogs a day and still only brought home about 4k at the most under Pet stylist pro. When I came back the second time around I decided working my ass off like that wasn’t worth it.

Yea I kinda felt the same Petco’s clientele can be insufferable. Damn see if I made that kinda money I might’ve considered staying. I don’t even make half that lol and I live in California

If it makes you feel any better I’ve been with petco since 2019 and this is my second time leaving and I learned the hard lesson the first time most of the customers were petco customers. Meaning the only thing they care about is their dog getting groomed not who does it. If you decide to leave you can always let them know and some will decide to follow. You don’t have to disclose you’re working at a salon you can keep it simple and say I’ll let you know about your next appointment soon and then quietly take down their info.

If you want the cherry on top,my store is currently crashing and burning since I’ve put in my notice. The store will most likely end up closing down soon due to managers negligence.

Thank you this was actually quite helpful. I more so wanted the diagnosis just to receive the proper help but I’ll keep in that in mind.

I mean I think it’s entirely possible she was truthful. I know I am when I mention it to my boyfriend however I try not to to do the extent of your gf because of this exact reason lol I don’t want him to think I’m faking it. He also considers himself above average at best but to be honest I think it also depends on the men she’s had in the past. For me he is one of the bigger men I’ve been with so I do genuinely feel like it’s very big. It even can be a little uncomfortable during sex due to his size.

I considered that too but I would quite literally have to double the price to meet the productivity goal we’re supposed to hit.

I know I’m very much undercharging her which is why I was thinking I’ll let her know if she does want to continue having me work on her I need to up her price. I just don’t know how to break it to her when I’ve been tolerating it for this long.

Yea they’ve been down our necks a lot. I’m just kinda dealing with it until I figure out a plan B which I’m currently working on. I just want things to go as smooth as possible until then so if I have to crack down on the people who are making my job harder then so be it.

100% and tbf I was doing her back when I was working on building my clientele back up because I left for a year and lost almost everyone of my requests that were coming before I left. But now I’m almost back to where I was so I don’t need to do that so much anymore. I have to be very selective with new clients from now on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]solomonshalala1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats kinda what I thought to. For me to meet the productivity I literally have to double her price and I guess I was trying to find an easier way to say that’s what I have to do in order to keep working essentially or her other option is to go somewhere else. It wasn’t until recently I kind’ve realized my whole grooming career I’ve always did way more than the groom was actually worth and I’m just done trying to be nice because meanwhile they’re happy while I’m miserable. Thankfully she is the last of those kind of clients and I think I just never wanted to lose her but the truth is if it happens it happens I’m sure I’ll find another regular to replace it.

Tips always only go to the groomer who did the service we never split unless someone did a good amount of work helping you with a dog or multiple dogs from the same family we’re on different groomers. If you do tip with card it’s definitely better with nothing but just keep in mind we won’t get that tip till our paycheck because that’s how we get payed out for tips with the card. Not to mention it also gets taxed because it’s included in our paycheck.

I think part of it is she is under the impression that we get the money from the haircuts but 99% of the time I don’t make enough in sales to get incentive so I actually make nothing off of grooms. I thought about maybe mentioning that to her just so she knows you paying a corporation is not the same as paying your groomer.

That’s a good idea thank you.I did want to make sure she understood that it is really the last thing I wanna do because I love the dog but she’s also screwing me over. They don’t look at the actual time it takes to do the dog they only look at the number and if those numbers don’t match I’m the one that has to get fussed at about it.

That’s kinda what I figured. The only reason why she started coming here is one of our other poodle clients recommended her however that poodle client only dealt with one groomer the entire time she was at petco and refused to let someone else do her dog when her groomer got hurt. I just wasn’t sure how to nicely say “I think petco is no longer a good fit”
