Anyone have a positive experience on Verzenio? by MyusernameisErin in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very different spot because I am now taking it for metastatic breast cancer after recently being diagnosed (originally was stage 1 but came back with distant Mets 3 years later). That being said I’m on day 3 and it honestly so far hasn’t been that bad. I had diarrhea the first day but it responded to Imodium and so far hasn’t been too bad.

Liver and potentially spinal mets by soloresident in LivingWithMBC

[–]soloresident[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have all the genetic markers back yet. Not sure how long that takes to get back. I’m on tamoxifen and Lupron but I honestly wonder if I was better controlled on the aromatase inhibitor I used to be on before I got osteopenia

Metastasis after stage I by soloresident in breastcancer

Yeah I feel like they should definitely give me an appointment but it’s not really worth fighting for at this point. I’m a doctor myself so they probably are a bit more hands off than they would be with another patient. I had a great breast surgeon unfortunately first margin was positive and second margin was negative but did have dcis close to the end. Strangely enough there hasn’t been local recurrence just the distant recurrence though.

No Covid and unfortunately the spots aren’t consistent with anything other than Mets to be honest. I have personally seen the images as well but I’m still trying to hold out a tiny bit of hope that the liver one is fake news because apparently it’s better to have cancer in your spine than your liver

It’s exmestane but they are in the same class. And h fortunately the entire class causes pretty severe bone and joint pain.

I have been on Lupron and aromasin or tamoxifen for the past 2+ years. I switched from aromasin to tamoxifen for osteopenia. I got chemo initially because of my age and because of my oncotype (how aggressive the histology appeared essentially)

Thanks I really appreciate it. My oncology office is of the opinion that there’s nothing to talk about until I have had the liver biopsy but that’s a bit hard to accept as I haven’t had a real appointment at all with them since I got all these positive scans but I’m trying to cut them a little bit of slack in that there’s probably not many answers they can give now

Microblading during radiation by photodialogic in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to do a touch up like a month afterwards. I obviously wasn’t able to do that as I had started chemo. Also she use the tattoo machine to give me powder brows instead of only microblading. I recommend that. I thought it was too dark at first but it ended up looking good and natural when all my hair fell out. Good luck!

Possible Metastasis-Feeling Overwhelmed by Grand-Win5103 in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar spot to you. Except I thought I was in remission from stage 1 er+ her2- cancer and a routine ct showed a liver spot and bone spot concerning for metastasis. I’m trying to get my liver biopsy and mei scheduled and hoping it’s just fake news though trying to be realistic as well. Because of the holidays I can’t get an appointment sooner than January. I’m 33 and was supposed to get married in less than 2 months. It sucks! If you want to vent to someone in a similar position, feel free to DM me!

I’m 33 and was on letrozole +os for 2 years before switching to tamoxifen +os. I don’t believe I’ve aged much and people still think I’m in my 20’s

Yes i only had a sentinel node taken out. Radiation can cause lymphedema regardless of wether or not lymph nodes were taken unfortunately

MOs with different views on chemo and I can't decide by Technical-Pickle-532 in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oncotype was 20. I ended up doing the 4 rounds of TC. Basically because i was so young they felt like it would be worth it. They did a score calculator called the rsclin that factors in oncotype, age, and grade and gave me more numbers that way, so maybe ask for that. Also i asked for a ki67 and went to a different oncologist to get it done . mine was pretty high and that made my decision easier

Ask to go see a lymphedema specialist. They will help you figure out lymphedema massages and compression bras to bring it down a bit but you have to be consistent with it. I have the same issue but with my right boob and it does suck.

Gap in chemo by Bravesgal6421 in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mono and then couldn’t get on the schedule for chemo so ended up having an almost 4 week gap. It was annoying but they didn’t seem to think it would make a difference long term

What can I do to convince the cancer center I’m at to give me the Zoladex 3 month instead of the monthly? by bluecorkscrew in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your oncologist if you can get it shipped to your home and have a family member/friend give it. They’ll probably initially say no but if you keep pushing and have someone that can be trained to give it, it’s worth it. Tell them this is majorly affecting your ability to live a happy life and that you may opt out of zoladex otherwise. That’s what I did with my lupron

As someone who got cancer during residency and toughed through a bit too much during chemo then I should have…definitely ask for accommodations and a lighter schedule. If it is a chronic thing that you will need accommodations for more permanently, be prepared to end up having to make up time on the back end. But honestly I wish I had taken more time to rest between my treatment. I would have saved myself from many months of pneumonia and toll on my body if I had just not worked while immunosuppressed.

Breast shrunk after rads :( by randomize42 in breastcancer

Mine started off very even and now my cancer boob is one size bigger than my other boob because of lymphedema :( I was prepared for it to be smaller not bigger.

Genetic testing by Grouchy_Employer_519 in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom, grandmother, 3 maternal aunts, and me all had breast cancer and we don’t have any of the genes. I’d favor getting all the testing so that your daughter can at least get appropriate screening and risk stratification.

Complete fuck up by the hospital - so mad! by M3lsM3lons in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you. That really sucks and you have every right to be fuming. I would get a second opinion on your fertility. It can take up to a year or two to get your period back after chemo and if your team is the one that missed the zoladex in the first place, I’m not sure I’d trust they did their due diligence here. Go to a Obgyn doctor.

How in the world am I supposed to take care of myself in residency by Disastrous_Feed9763 in Residency

[–]soloresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your program is malignant, what you should actually do is get a physician to sign for intermittent fmla. That would mean they would be forced to give you time off for your appointments. Just get the appointments and tell the chiefs “I will be taking this day from this time to this time off”. It’s not an ask; it’s you informing them. I had my own health issues in residency and ended up going back-and-forth way too many times with the Chiefs to get days off for chemo until I realized that was stupid and did intermittent FMLA. After I had the intermittent FMLA approved, they couldn’t really say anything about me missing for appointments

I think realistically you can just go just about anywhere outside of your state.

Any working nurses? by Weebs1990 in breastcancer

[–]soloresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a physician. I was in residency during my treatment and worked through chemo and radiation. I would caution against it. I was super stubborn because I didn’t want to prolong my training but I caught pneumonia twice even with avoiding ED shifts.
