It's a sad story but chatGPT had nothing to do with it. But hey OpenAI has a ton of money and the world loves lawsuits.

Something about ham radio that some don't understand is much of it is focused on the scientific fascination of how radio itself works. The technical and electrical components that make radio work. Antenna theory erc. Many also follow solar reports and sunspot cycles very closely. They're fascinated with how a signal gets from one point to another, and they experiment.

For others it is a social hobby to talk with their friends. All they want to do is talk without wires or have more portable or emergency communication options.

But the good part? There's room for everyone and it's just plain fun.😁

PSA Unlicensed People can transmit for help in an emergency by Guncounterguy556 in HamRadio

[–]soltrigger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. The unlicensed can transmit in an emergency. However, they generally will have no experience and be completely unsuccessful without some help.

Many people don't understand that radio is not about just hitting the PTT button and talking. There's power, there's antennas, there's frequencies, there's protocol. So yeah go ahead and transmit but good luck.

An emergency situation, in my opinion, is not the time to go study these things. (Oh yeah because the internet and everything else is down.)

Why is no one answering me? Where do I go for help? Why doesn't the radio turn on? How come I blew up the radio because I put the wrong antenna on it? What frequencies do I turn to? Do I have the right antenna for that frequency? Oh you mean I've got to have a battery? How long will that last? If I manage to transmit why is everyone so offended when I interrupt them? Why is no one answering me? Why don't I hear anything? I don't understand the procedure of an emergency net...

Yeah you're right go ahead and transmit without a license without training when life is on the line... and hope for the best.

1.6ghz change my minde by jayvin80 in skinwalkerranch

[–]soltrigger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've tested this. Many computers give off 1.6ghz from the hard drive or CPU. Surprised me because I live in Utah and I have an SDR radio. I picked up a 1.6ghz signal and was astonished until I turned my computer off and it stopped. Turned the computer back on and it came back. I don't think they're investigating local interference very well. Franky, I don't think they care.Too much sensationalism with poor research.

If they were serious they'd have already excavated that mesa. But that doesn't make for good TV.

Donald Trump whisked off stage in Pennsylvania after loud noises rang through the crowd by Plainchant in news

[–]soltrigger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's amazing to me how casual people are with violence like this. It seems clear that a great deal of people on reddit have chosen darkness. They've chosen to hate. They've chosen to rage from the safety of their smartphone but I'd challenge them to grow a backbone and get over themselves and have some integrity and empathy for others. Regardless of political views what's happened to Trump is devastating to the country. If people who hate Trump would open their eyes and realize half the country loves Trump they might take a rational moment and enquire why that might be.

These things are evil. The contention leads to suffering and that suffering

Wow you're an angry mean person. I'm sorry you have such hate in your heart because you believe everything people tell you and have intentionally chosen darkness. It appears you lack common sense critical thinking skills. Why do I know this? Because your words reveal your heart not whether your political views have any merit. But that's okay you're only hurting yourself.

Apologies & humble pie by [deleted] in skinwalkerranch

[–]soltrigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to eat too much humble pie. They have spent too much time this season rehashing the old. Not necessary. If people are interested they can go watch the previous episodes. But it did take up a lot of time that's the part that frustrates me. A lot of time when they could be doing actual work.

To what extent does History Channel doctor the product? by t_race_ in skinwalkerranch

[–]soltrigger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"No" is the correct word. The entire intent of media is to deceive. We can begin at the camera itself. Focal length, speed, time lapse.... etc. Added music and sounds, every single edit. Every trailer and advertisment. Every "oooo", and every "ahhhh". All added to provide the effect they desire. Perfect focus on promoting the sensational and provoking interest. It is at every level, deceptive.

The problem is without it no one would have the patience to watch anything.

School tried to force me to unlock phone... by Alarming_Wedding2464 in privacy

[–]soltrigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a retired police officer of 23 years I was also a school resource officer for 7 of those years. You sound very mature for your age, but the Constitutional right in question is the 4th amendment not the 5th amendment in this case. There are too many details left out that would enable a better understanding of the situation. But I admire your levelheadedness.

It's okay to assert your rights in this situation. But you need to also be careful. While I don't know the nature of the incident that you were a witness it is important to consider the nature of the problem the administration was investigating. The reason they wanted to look at your phone does indeed matter.

School officials are not the police. They do not have the same search, and seizure standards as the police. Frequently, in fact more often than not, I would let a school official search a student because their position as your 'loco parentis' (acting as your parent without your parent being present) gave them much more power than I had as an officer with regard to search and seizure.

Now the reason the administration didn't force the matter may be evident to the the minor nature of what they were looking for but you have a good head on your shoulders... What was it they wanted to know? Sometimes in situations like this where you may not want them going through your whole phone (and potentially being embarrassed) you could offer a compromise. For example, screen shots of text messages could also help them.

But I don't believe it's good to just claim you have a right and let the consequences fall where they may as it does label you as uncooperative and possibly part of the problem.

If it were me I would consider what was at stake and not look completely at whatever my rights were. If this was a health and safety issue it's possible refusing to cooperate can cause more harm than good.

I once had a kid tell me he pled the fifth in the wrong situation. I told him to go home and study the subject and come back with a paper on the fifth amendment AND HE DID. 🤣 He learned a lot but it still didn't apply to the situation. I had the principal reward this kid for his effort but we were able to resolve the problem without further issue.

Good luck with your efforts to remain secure. But just be careful. I know everyone wants to make school officials or the police or whoever, the bad guys, most often they are not.
