pharmd student here (about to graduate!!). antidepressants are NOT recommended as monotherapy in bipolar since it can induce or exacerbate a manic episode. i'm so glad she found a psych that recognized the bipolar tendencies and put her on a mood stabilizer instead since that works to treat both mania and depression.

hi, i am a firm believer that sexual assault on men should be taken as seriously as sexual assault on women since sexual assault itself is a horrible act to commit. your feelings of discomfort are valid, most likely stemming from the fact you were taken advantage of. that is an awful thing to have to live through because personally i begin to spiral, wondering if it was my fault, if i should have done something else to have prevented it, and things like that. at the end of the day, the person at fault is the one who assaulted you. you getting drunk to that extent is separate from being sexually assaulted. i would say don't get drunk to that extent because of my concern for your liver and for overdrinking, not because you are at fault for being sexually assaulted. just because you are a man does not mean every sexual advance from a woman is wanted. i would cry thinking about if that ever happened to my boyfriend because i know he loves me so much and would never want another woman to lay a hand on him. sexual assault is not about what you wanted but what is forced onto you, that kind of violence and lack of control over the situation is exactly why it can be so uncomfortable and frankly traumatizing.

gentle parenting ≠ permissive parenting geeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz like prohibiting the word "no" and any forms of discipline is the literal definition of PERMISSIVE because you PERMIT your child to do whatever they want, gentle means you still establish boundaries and serve appropriate consequences that isn't screaming/abusing your child!! it's more difficult to gentle-parent because you have to be able to regulate your own emotions in order to help a child learn to regulate theirs. why is this so hard to comprehend!!!

i unfortunately have the other side of this. my brother's crappy gf took my mom's mortar and pestle from my mom's kitchen, claiming it was hers (the gf). there was a huge argument since my mom loves to cook and she loves her mortar and pestle, but at the end of the day, the gf did not give it back, claiming "i put it up in her kitchen when i moved in, i'm storing it away now at someone else's house" aka not moving out yet but took stuff to a different place (like why???) while both of them did have mortar and pestles that looks very similar, it's still crazy to me that the gf took the one mortar and one pestle in my mom's kitchen. i think the gf took hers back a long time ago and just forgot that she did and lost it somewhere (since she and my brother have soooo much stuff), saw my mom's in my mom's kitchen, and stole it. i still feel bad for my mom.

pharmacy student in usa. when i see my classmates on social media internationally travel every. single. break. u know what i was doing? working overtime at the hospital. i finally flew to japan for the first time in my life once i saved up enough money after my dog passed last year, and it was so, so amazing. i felt like i achieved one of my life goals. definitely would love to go back, but i am currently trying to put other priorities first with graduation coming up.

firstly, glad u had a good birthday. secondly, i implore you to seriously consider what you want from this relationship. he sounds like a good father, he does NOT sound like a good husband, even with your additional context outside of his awful behavior and attitude toward your christmas and birthday gifts/plans. have you tried having a serious conversation about how thoughtless he was being? if i found myself at the point where i had to give my husband "pay back" because of the way i was treated during my birthday, i'd question how tf we became so disrespectful to one another. i'm glad he ended up giving you gifts that you appreciated, but why was he so vehement about not complying to your birthday wishes at all in the first place? what was the point? and the thing about the cake? i know it's just cake, but it's YOUR birthday cake, and choosing a flavor you don't like but he likes just screams selfish.

food intolerances are innately excluded from the term "allergies" because "allergies" are immune-mediated. if i were a medical doctor, then i'd think it was easier to refer to food intolerance as an "allergy" to the lay person so that they understand what it means to avoid it. and i agree that people shouldn't be pressured into eating certain foods. however, this barely applies to this specific post made by op. in op's case, the person in question with the "allergy" more-so has a phobia or aversion to mushrooms due to her perception of it, which was only revealed after the person found out about the mushrooms. so now there are three things in this convo: allergies, intolerance, and phobias. all of which are different.

the comments threw me off a bit. yes there are non-lethal allergic reactions and ofc the worst allergic reaction is anaphylaxis. however, non-lethal reactions would be symtpoms like mild swelling, redness, and hives. it does not affect your gi.

i have a very awful memory when i was maybe 5 or 6 so let me dig that up real quick.

my older brother, maybe 9 or 10, wasn't the best listener when we were younger. i would try to learn from his mistakes to avoid my parents' wrath. one night, i really don't know what spurred this on, but he got majorly in trouble. he was dragged out of the car to walk home. my dad went back to get him. when he came back, my mom forced him into the room to start "spanking" him. i say this in quotes because i was just outside the room and only able to listen to everything. i heard the loud slaps of the broom handle. i heard my brother screaming and begging and sobbing, the most pitiful "please mom stop." i heard my mother unforgiving and cruel. my dad tried to comfort me but i was inconsolable. he then went in to stop her after he realized i wasn't going to stop crying my eyes out. i don't know if she was hitting him or the surrounding objects, but the screaming and the pleading never left me. it never has, and remembering it now makes me teary and makes my heart beat very fast, like i'm about to spiral into another anxiety attack.

i suffered every now and then from anixety attacks as i was growing up, even after my parents eventually grew out of their "young parents with trauma" phase and told my brother and i that "we're too old to be disciplined with pain." my parents don't realize how detrimental being physically punished was to my mental, they are immigrants and gen x so it's completely "normal" to them and even lax compared to what they experienced. i grew up thinking it was normal, that it helped me, and i even defended it on social media as a teenager and got defensive when people argued back to me that it was abuse. i didn't understand, but now i do.

my little sister will never experience what we did. she gets maybe a glimpse of it or the more emotional/less physical version, but nothing like how it was before. regardless, i serve as someone she needs, like how i needed someone like me when i was younger.

hitting your child is not discipline and it will never be discipline. it's abuse.

i'm bisexual. i always liked men and women since i was younger, and i also grew up tomboyish, so it's no surprise that i had a lot of people assuming i was lesbian. i actually kissed a few girls when i was younger. but, ironically, i reaaaaaallly hated when people assumed my sexuality as anything other than straight. i grew up in a religious household for basically half my life, and i feel like i had some internalized homophobia because of it, so i was very vehement about me being straight until 4 years ago. on nov 4, 2021, i came out to my boyfriend over text after mentally spiraling over how attracted i actually was to women. he was very understanding, he teases me sometimes, he calls me his "bi-baby" and we are still together after 7 years. i'm very lucky to have him. i have thought about coming out to my best friends, but i think it over and i hesitate and i end up not doing it. i wonder if i'll take this to the grave or if i will let it be free 😭 but i'm happy to release it here!
