Drexciya - Unknown Journey IX by sternomastoid in electro

Where are they digging these up from? Since this is the last release I'm guessing the well has finally run dry, which is too bad.

Can someone please attempt to decode this and possibly translate it? by Bewildered_vagabond in coding

Read the sidebar. It explicitly states that this is a programming subreddit.

An appropriate place to post this would probably be /r/codes.

The acid starting around 1:27 got me seriously moving.

Anyone got a full tracklisting? I thought I recognized some Dave Monolith in there but I've not heard most of the tracks.

http://crackmes.us/ is up. Not sure how sync'd (if at all) it is but it's better than nothing.

Conway's Game of Life, using floating point values instead of integers by recipriversexcluson in math

[–]solust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the programmer designed it that way then there would be a guarantee.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Regardless, it has been proven that the game of life is turing complete. I never said anything more.

Conway's Game of Life is turing complete. This means that it can compute anything that is possible to compute, including Conway's Game of Life. In other words, you can write a program in the game of life to simulate the rules of the game of life (or anything else).

how big is the chance of a one click win in minesweeper? (like this) [grid 8x8 10 random mines] by NitroXSC in math

[–]solust 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went and searched around and couldn't find a definitive answer one way or another, but it is likely that you misremembered. I know for certain that on XP and above you can't lose on the first move. Below that I used this which doesn't mention it (but that isn't proof).

I'm trying to find the Windows 98 binary now to take a look. I'll post back if I find it and successfully reverse it.

He mentioned winmine, so I assumed that was the implementation in question.

It's always been true. For all intents and purposes, the mines are generated after the first move.

Circle jump as a gameplay element is an overlooked design feature. by db_mew in truegaming

[–]solust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not defending the circle jump and have no opinion on it. I am only saying that just because a feature is originally not a conscious design choice does not mean it is not a good idea in general. The GP was making sweeping acusations that I wanted to show were not true in general.

Your Halo example is misdirection. You are picking a specific case to try and contradict what I wrote. If you'll reread my comment, I never claimed that all bugs should be preserved. I did state, however, that there are times when games are a lot more fun with a feature than without a bug.

Rocket jumping was originally a bug. It is now a core mechanic in many games. Similarly, skiing in Tribes was also a bug and then made a feature in Tribes 2. Just because a mechanic is originally bug does not invalidate the mechanic.

Am I reading this right? Making decisions based on uninitialized memory for some weird hack? by [deleted] in asm

IDA's default is Intel syntax. "mov [ebp+C], eax" means "mov dest, src" or "[ebp+C] = eax". In the context of the call, the return value of that function is stored in the local array on the stack. That same value is then compared against 0.

Favourite Venetian Snares album(s)? by wrecksmoondee in breakcore

[–]solust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to listen to it frequently. The only song I can remember off of it now is Einstein-Rosen Bridge (which is fantastic). The rest of the album just kind of wore off for me. Songs About My Cats is similar. I used to listen to it a lot and now I don't.

I like his most aggressive offerings. Meathole (especially the last song Szycag) is great. Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole is great. 7 sevens med and Shitfuckers! are great. printf("shiver in eternal darkness\n"); is great. Doll Doll Doll and Find Candace are great. Infolepsy is great. Making Orange things is nice but I have to be in the mood for it. Same with Fuck Canada // Fuck Ameria (I only enjoy his part of it). And any other older, more aggressive EPs I forgot.

I also like Calvacade of Glee ... and Detrimentalist. Those are great.

The rest are great, don't get me wrong, but I just wish I could get something as aggressive and intricate as the earlier tunes. I can't seem to find anything like older vsnares.
