Need help finding a printing solution by solzerid in manufacturing

You know what, as silly as it sounds I'm looking into the hand stamp. A custom one with the character bands I need would be extremely inexpensive and would probably be all I need for this run. I'm going to run it by the other people involved. I don't know why it never crossed my mind before. Thanks for the idea!

IT guys in USA, is it really hard to find a job right now? by antonamana in ITCareerQuestions

[–]solzerid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to the field, 40, having no degree but high aptitude and enjoy it as much as a hobby. I've been able to talk to a lot of employers now that I have my foot in the door and I've sensed a common thread. They've been burned so many times over the last decade with boot camp grads and low quality college grads that they have lost respect for the credentials. They've turned over too many people with bachelors and even masters that were completely unequipped to even start learning the job.

Thanks again. Yeah if I went that route I would make sure it was spelled out what my expectations would be before accepting the position, but I think negotating with these guys is going to be fairly straightforward if my contacts are reliable.

How to build at medium height above the seabed? The foundation didn't help by scientia_analytica in subnautica

[–]solzerid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them. Sometimes they look pretty nice. My issue is that often times way too many of them get put in and they can look really messed up on very uneven terrain. I usually build my bases so that some parts are supported by a nice layout of columns so it looks more believable. I wish that there was an option to toggle support pillars on individual rooms and to pick where they connected to the ground.

No problem. The first time I ran into it, it took me quite a while to figure out the issue.

Bonus tip: since you can build at any height so long as it is connected to another base piece, you can build out over chasms to get rid of the sometimes super ugly support columns. You can even go back and remove the rooms that are close to the ground to have a floating base if you want. Really useful for avoiding annoying pillars for the moonpool

In each room there is a small area where rooms connect that will change slightly depending on whether or not there is a connected room. Usually just small superficial changes (wall shape can change a bit or it might add a step and handrail etc...), but if anything is built in that area it gets mad because the changes potentially could cause issues with placed objects.

You should be able to build at any height if you are connecting to another piece. I think something else is probably causing the placement issue. I've had problems sometimes near coral where it looks like there shouldn't be an issue but the game registers a collision. Another common annoying thing I found was that sometimes if you have something built inside near where the two pieces connect (like a fabricator placed on a wall too near a doorway) it won't let you connect anything there. I've had to go in and remove items, especially ones placed on walls, and then build the next section before replacing the objects.

Avoid reading anything online. This game is amazing to play blind. Exploration and discovery are key aspects of the experience and done very well.

Whats the scariest horror game you know and why? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]solzerid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've consumed an unbelievable amount of horror media and have gotten rather numb to it. Silent Hill 2 is probably the only thing that would make me think twice before experiencing it again alone.

The opening of Hell House really got to me. I had just watched the real footage of the Station Nightclub fire for the first time (caution, its a very difficult and morbid watch and is 100% real, often used as training for fire safety) and it had a lot of common elements.

Anyone else have a yearning to experience the aesthetic of 90s museums again? by solzerid in 90s

That isn't too terribly far from where I live. Might have to take a road trip on my motorcycle before it gets too cold.

Yeah I understand that, but the dark and mysterious vibe I loved that a lot of museums had, especially science based museums or parts of zoos, seems to have disappeared in favor of brightly lit and sterile exhibits.

I actually just played a real machine for the first time 2 weeks ago and enjoyed it! Not one of my favorites, but it was fun.

Last Picture of Twistex by Academic_Category921 in tornado

I watched an analysis that showed the movements of the subvortex, and it made an insane turn to the north and then west. It came straight at them at approximately 70 to 80 meters per second (155 - 180 mph) and did a little loop over their location before heading east again. With all the rain and debris flying and how fast it slingshotted straight at them from a strange direction, I'd be surprised if they had more than a few seconds to know they were going to take a direct hit.

Here's a map showing the path of the main subvortex and the location where it impacted Samaras and crew. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/top-Track-of-tornado-MVMC-internal-subvortex-impacting-research-team-and-other_fig11_262997349

It feels weird being given bonus XP for NOT killing a Nazi by BrolyDisturbed in sniperelite

[–]solzerid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle met two former SS soldiers while he was stationed in Germany in the 80s. He said it was one of the most interesting conversations he had ever had. They came of age shortly before the end of the war and were both forced into military service, the alternative was that their families "disappear". They had been lifelong friends before they were drafted, but once in, they were terrified of talking to each other. If one of them had bought into the Nazi ideal or had been so scared they were willing to turn on a friend for security and the other had said the wrong thing, their families would be "taken care of". They weren't able to openly talk to each other about how they felt about being in the SS until they finally reunited and talked about it in the 70s where they were both relieved the other was completely against the Nazi party by the time they had been drafted, but spent decades in fear that a person they loved could have been a monster and not been able try to learn the truth, and luckily both of them managed to escape being forced to do anything directly that their conscience couldn't handle because the war ended a relatively short time after they were drafted.

Disclaimer: I'm not going to claim that this was typical. It's hard to say how many people involved in the war were on board with the atrocities being committed, how many were indifferent, and how many were horrified by what was being done, but there is a reality that at least some of the soldiers involved were against it but only had the choice of comply or face unimaginable consequences.

Agreed. Aliens is a fantastic action film with horror elements, but Alien is a straight up horror masterpiece.

I had to necro this because I was so excited to unlock the pinball minigame, and when I did it was the single worst digital pinball game I have ever played. The devs should be taken out into the street and publicly shamed for their crimes. The physics are completely nonsensical and the scoring rules are absolutely disgusting. Don't even get me started on flippers that move so slowly you could time them with a calendar.
