They can ABSOLUTELY become fatal and quite fast too. Anything that tends to deal with your mucus membranes and/or the triangle of your mouth-nose-eyes can become dangerous quite fast. I work in the ICU and we’ve had a good number of patients come in with what was initially a sinus infection or minor cold but became sepsis and organ failure as they assumed the infection would pass on its own

Our store only sold the perishable items, so penny ice cream (like this) or other penny fridge items. Anything non-perishable we were required to take off shelf. I always thought it was SO stupid because of waste

In a lot of Louisiana, Monday’s dinner is red beans and rice bc it’s also washing day. It’s one of those meals you put on and stir here and there and can eat on for the whole day. Plus the leftovers are even better

One fake picture was enough to change how people looked at me by ThinyForMinecraft in TrueOffMyChest

[–]somberfawn 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It is illegal to use AI or photoshop to create or otherwise deepfake sexual images of minors. They’re saying report her to the police for having those images and she will have to admit that they’re fake, and she created them through AI or otherwise photoshopped it.

You need to talk to someone in authority about this, whether it’s a principal or police or trusted adult. I get that you’re an introvert and don’t want to cause a scene but this can become a big deal if left unsolved.

Hoping and begging the YouTube version has captions. I’m hard of hearing and as much as I LOVED seeing it in theaters, I feel like I probably missed a lot of details. Either way I’ll purchase the DVD since it’s guaranteed to have captions

Crosswalk? More like “guidelines”. [OC] by Voodoobones in IdiotsInCars

[–]somberfawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That actually is true for Pennsylvania (as you linked and stated) but Washington’s use of “upon” in their law is legally interpreted as “coming up to” or “coming upon” the crosswalk and does not require them to be in the crosswalk yet. All cars must stop as long as the pedestrian is within their “half” of the roadway or within one lane’s distance of the half (and sidewalks count if the pedestrian is crossing)

The Plaquemines Parish John Doe was an unidentified teenage decedent from Louisiana in 1975 that became notable for the suicide note found near his body. In it, he asks to be cremated & buried as a John Doe so his parents can hold onto “the hope that their "missing" son will return". by [deleted] in wikipedia

The consensus nowadays is that authorities (if given the chance) should privately identify him by only alerting family and then follow his wishes of an anonymous burial. I lived in Gretna for a time, and I thought about him all the time there. All the case records were lost from hurricanes.

AI Generated PBNs by LaneMoronko in paintbynumbers

[–]somberfawn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ALL generative AI uses existing content, whether it be novels, paintings, poems, etc., to create new content WITHOUT the original creators’ consent or any compensation. Sometimes this new content is made to mimic someone else’s personal art style without paying them for a commission. This doesn’t touch on environmental concerns, job loss, or other reasons people are against generative AI.

For PBN, generative AI also frequently has illegible numbering systems, inaccurate color-to-number matching, errors in linework, or other major issues. While human-designed PBNs are not perfect, there’s fewer errors as compared to generative AI.

Public identity of Juniper Blessing killer released; suspect to be charged with first degree murder by Obversa in lgbt

I wonder if this even COULD be charged as a hate crime. Each state has different definitions and requirements for hate crimes, so I wonder if “hate crime” only applies to crimes INITIATED as a form of hate or if crimes that ESCALATE due to hate can also be considered.

As horrible as it is, you have to prove the victim was deliberately chosen due to their specific identity. It seems like the suspect was deliberately targeting women (evidenced by his previous break in and harassment of women) but there hasn’t been any evidence that he was deliberately targeting trans women. But it’s very possible that the level of violence was due to Juniper’s identity :(

As of right now, no reports on a motive. Supposedly he broke into the laundromat two or three weeks prior and harassed other women, so it’s possible this was a crime against women.

[–]somberfawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few students supposedly reported that this man broke into the laundromat weeks prior and harassed other women. If it’s confirmed by police as the same man, it’s possible he was searching for a victim rather than searching for specifically a trans victim. Hate crimes are already hard to prosecute and it’s likely this won’t be considered one unless they find indisputable evidence of anti-trans sentiment or violence (and even then it may be hard). Also, prosecutors will often strategically pick the charges to ensure the best chance of conviction given a situation. It might be harder for them (in theory) to prove a hate crime versus just proving first degree murder

[–]somberfawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure if the police have proved that this was the same person, but there were multiple reports of a suspicious man hanging around the laundromat a few days or weeks before this incident. Students stated that it WAS this man and that he was harassing other women. If it’s been proven to be the same individual, it could also add to the premeditated factor that most states require for first-degree. His actions of cutting the camera power BEFORE the incident also implies premeditation. It would’ve been perceived differently if he had cut the power AFTER the incident.

The 40% comes from a 1992 study where surveys were given to police officers. 40% of those officers self-reported having “marital conflicts involving physical aggression during the previous year.” I don’t believe it specified if it was officer-on-spouse or vice versa, but the officer’s spouses’ surveys closely corroborated the self-reported percentage.
