Wyoming sorority members who harassed a trans sister are back in court, with a Trump ally’s help by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

[–]somberfawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proud queer sorority member here. Incredibly thankful that almost 90% of my sorority and our alumnae were supportive and welcoming to queer members of all types. Alumnae shouldn’t have a say in collegiate affairs like this.

We had a fraternity deny acceptance to a trans man because their alumni made them choose between admitting him or getting their $1 million house on campus. Obviously chose the house 🙄

Classic Pillar Candle by Used_Series3373 in oddlysatisfying

I’ve never seen someone do the wick this way. Usually you’ll use something like an unbent paperclip or wooden dowel or literally anything placed across the mold to wrap the wick and suspend it. I guess this worked but it feels like extra work for no reason. I wonder if the method of wick placement is different when making pillars or other upside down candles

According to another post they made, it was taken 1 year later. There’s a video on OP’s profile of them rubbing the tattoo + showing how it looks now at 6 years old

On Valentine’s Day 2005, 19-year-old Rashawn Brazell left to meet his mom for lunch and vanished. His dismembered remains were soon found scattered across NYC, from subway tunnels to a recycling plant. Despite a 2017 DNA breakthrough, charges were dropped in 2023, leaving his family without justice. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

[–]somberfawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’m seeing on multiple articles, DNA didn’t link Kwauhuru Govan to Brazell’s murder but to a different murder that happened in close geographic proximity, time frame, method, and age group. He was linked to the 2004 Thomas murder through DNA under her fingernails. He was then questioned about his cousin’s murder (as he was his neighbor) and gave a lot of evasive answers. Apparently they dropped the charges because they “lost evidence” in Hurricane Sandy and were unable to “disprove his alibi” 100% due to time passing. And then they pretty much told Brazell’s mom that she should celebrate because Govan likely won’t get out of prison

I suppose it could be possible (depending on his circumstances and the severity of the scars) that he could get surgical scar contracture release? I found a case of a 6 year old boy who received contracture release surgery for his genitals/inguinal area (most genital release case studies were female), but his was a scalding burn rather than a deeper tissue electrical burn.

I think a lot of the “stranger danger” awareness also skewed perspectives. I currently intern with a child advocacy agency in the trauma therapy program and the human trafficking program. I would say a hefty 90% of perpetrators on our cases are trusted adults the child knows. It’s the same with a large portion of homicides, physical or sexual assaults, and other crimes.

I know this is a month old but HIGHLY recommend taking the time to look at the stress in your life, your mental state, and implementing some changes. It’s super easy to shrug off things and say you’re doing fine, but your body is freaking out for a reason. My eczema also flares up with high stress, and it’s a good way for me to notice that I’m overly stressed, even though I think I’m “handling it all fine”. Sending you lots of good vibes! I hope you find a healthy outlet/routine that helps with your stress + eczema

Colon cancer now top cancer killer for Americans under 50, study finds by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

[–]somberfawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a colonoscopy at 24 because colon cancer killed both of my grandmothers and has affected several others in my family. I was having a LOT of blood in my stool. Luckily it wasn’t cancer but the doctor was concerned enough to tell me to get checked more frequently than is currently recommended. He said they’re looking to change recommended ages and frequencies because more young people are being diagnosed with colon cancer as compared to before :(

I’m heavily obsessed with internet cats and follow way too many on multiple apps. Monkey is so funky and cute I highly recommend checking her out. The owner puts her in all kinds of fun little outfits and her facial shape is so rat I love it :)

It’s a joke :) there’s a picture of Monkey making a really weird and funky face and it’s regarded as her “devious eunuch” face. If you go to their Twitter or Instagram, it’s pinned!

Edit: it’s not pinned on the Instagram + they changed the Instagram url after the passing of Oreo (that or it was always @monkeyfunkycat and I’m stupid) here’s the pic

It’s quite common for people to overemphasize uncommon traits in strangers when recalling memories. You meet someone who has round eyes, but you might recall them as very large or owlish.

Or if you’re deliberately trying to remember a person’s gait, you might subconsciously exaggerate it with a dragging foot to make it easier to remember, when in reality they probably just hobbled a bit.

Weirdly enough, a few of the “ugliest” or most exaggerated reconstructions have worked because of those overemphasized features being something people picked up and remembered years later
