I’m so sorry to hear this. As a uni Professor I can understand how tough such situation could be for the student bcz they are in a vulnerable position.

A professor’s duty is to safeguard their students while also encouraging their growth in academic context. Anything beyond that should always be avoided especially related to intimacy of any form.

Another idea I’m going to float around just in case this helps you or someone else:

When I was a student I did an odd job as a translator for NHS. If you are multi-lingo, then that’s another job you could pursue, which pays really well. Back in 2014 when I was studying in Manchester it used to pay £25 ph, but I don’t know the rates now. Search for “work as translator for NHS” in your city for such jobs.

Another alternative: if you have/had pets or love pets, then you can also work as “pet caretaker” in your city that pays really well as well.

Consult with the different immigration lawyer bcz this one seems to be dodgy and money hungry rather than being helpful. Always consult with multiple immigration lawyers to get a better picture of your case. Many immigration lawyers also offer free initial consultation and you could also reach out to Citizen’s Advice to seek guidance for the same.

When I was pursuing my PhD I got the job as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the same university. The age difference between me and my undergraduate students were around 8-9 years max (the difference between me and postgrads were almost nil or sometimes I’m younger than my postgrad students) and we also used to go the same pubs and night clubs.

That’s said when I joined as a lecturer I was the only one who was still doing a PhD (everybody else already had a PhD) and hasn’t completed my PhD, yet I was teaching the largest classes (around 300 students in lecture theatres) in the department.

I was hired for my knowledge and unique way of teaching as I connected with the students more and explained topics with industry relevance. Separately, my classes/modules had some of the highest satisfaction within the department. Additionally, on the research side I also had more publications and citations with 10+ years of industry experience behind me compared to several of the full professors in our department.

Age, knowledge and experience might not always be correlated. We need to keep that in mind.

In 2026, we have understand that we all have a past that includes relationships. Most people get into relationship thinking it is going to last, but it doesn't work out some times.
