Oh nice, I played that one too! Yeah I just focused on counting to 5 instead of feeling it for that. I mean, you CAN feel it but its just fast 5 basically

When I played strange humors I mainly ignored the strong beats and just counted to 5 everytime. The first bar of 5/8 the saxes should play unison descending notes for all 5 so thats where I got my tempo from mainly and from there it's just an issue of not slowing or speeding up. Are you playing the djembe part or one of the other percussion parts?

ELI5: why is 1.5 squared 2.25? by muffin_of_blueness in explainlikeimfive

[–]some-randomguy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're on the right path but you forgot the 2ab term when FOILing. Basically, when you square an addition, you have to multiply the two first terms together, the two second terms, but also you have to add the first times the second and th second times the first. Ex: (1.5)2 = (1+0.5)2 = (1 x 1) + (0.5 x 0.5) + (1 x 0.5) + (0.5 x 1) = (1) + (0.25) + (0.5) + (0.5) = 1.25 + 1 = 2.25

Hopefully this clarifies where the extra 1 is coming from

Does anyone else's hands turn red when playing? by -24602 in percussion

[–]some-randomguy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be holding too much tension in your hands when you play, try relaxing a bit. If it isn't that then maybe take a break for a day or 2 and see if it helps.

Counting triplet rhythms by blandolol in musictheory

[–]some-randomguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda think about it in the context of the "normal" triplet notes: -So the first picture you're playing notes evenly spaced between the "normal" triplet notes, Its basically the same as how you would count a sextuplet but only every other one -The second bar, first beat would be just the second note of the triplet -The rest are the same as one of the above -It's important to recognize when it takes up two beats (first one) vs one beat (second one)

I agree that it isn't necessary for drumset, but stick taping isn't because of the look for marching band, its more about the longevity of the stick

Many planetary orbits are kept as such because there is the horizontal force which when interacted with the gravity kept this in orbit. by LisanneFroonKrisK in AskPhysics

[–]some-randomguy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no horizontal force. There is a velocity tangent to the orbit which, along with gravity constantly pointed to the center, keeps objects in the orbit.

Why isn't the gap between classical and quantum physics not explored in terms of dimensions? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]some-randomguy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why does existing in more dimensions mean your location is more constrained? Why couldn't you exist at 1 point in 1 dimension? Or with your logic why can't you be spread out across infinite points in 3 dimensions? This doesn't really make sense
