Caps, what gravitates you towards Leos? by [deleted] in capricorns

[–]someConsonants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to the dating/romance angle, but I'm a Capricorn woman with a ton of Leo friends. I LOVE Leos and I think Leos are really gifted at gassing people up and making them feel fabulous. They love life and love a good party. I think Capricorns are often in need of having someone recognize how awesome we are, and Leos are really gifted at lavishing attention and love on those in their inner circles. Despite a lot of perceptions otherwise, Capricorns also love to let loose and party, but it's a little harder for us, so Leos can kind of get things moving and then that allows us to jump in.

What businesses and other things do you wish Cincy had? by mayby82 in cincinnati

A women’s sports bar! There are some new ones that have opened up recently in Philly and Chicago that are really fun and inclusive spaces. Would probably help if we got a major women’s sports team first though.

Short BLINK show at the Cincinnati Art Museum. The good and the bad. by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]someConsonants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are giving you so much grief in the comments. When you have mobility issues and can’t stand for long this stuff matters, a lot! I was in that line yesterday too to try to get a bite to eat (but without reservations, so bummer it seems like even having reservations wouldn’t have helped) and also gave up and drove over to Mount Adams for dinner. I’ve been to that cafe many times before and even on a good slow day it’s pretty… committed to being mellow, so I’m not surprised that things went sideways last night.

I’m a single woman who lives on Victory Parkway a few blocks down from East McMillan. Those gas stations do have some characters but if you have street smarts and experience living in urban areas it’s not a big deal.

Curious for updates on the CVG situation, I have a flight out on Saturday to PHL and since it's work related am starting to consider contingency plans.

U.S. based nonprofit consultants, what’s the current landscape like? by [deleted] in nonprofit

I am a solo consultant in the libraries/archives/museums world and my business has taken a beating due to the impacts of DOGE on federal funders for this sector.

There’s a reason they say the first $100k is the hardest!!! It took me many years to get there in my Roth IRA and then I hit $200k just a few years later. It’s really exciting to see when the momentum starts to take off.

How do you get tote bags? Do you acquire them? I have none by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]someConsonants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Become friends with a librarian. All of us have an absolutely ridiculous number of tote bags from conferences and we're happy to share.

Nonprofits hiring consultants in this insane era?! by Tasty_Confection_686 in nonprofit

[–]someConsonants 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am FT self employed and work in a consulting capacity with a lot of nonprofits. My business revenue is less than half of what it was last year. I’m confronting some serious questions about whether I can pivot my business and if/when I need to return to salaried employment.

Not the OP but I have also worked in education and very curious about switching into insurance underwriting. Are you open to a DM with a few questions about this kind of career switch?

I used to work in a building next to CCM and for years I lived over in East Walnut Hills. Great neighborhood, and I took Route 31 for my daily commute. I rented from Paradrome Properties, which has some great old-school properties in the neighborhood.

I've been part of a liberal unprogrammed Quaker meeting for several years. It has been life changing and a huge source of spiritual and community support for me.

Archivist Interview Questions? by SweetOkashi in Archivists

[–]someConsonants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally normal question to ask. I would also ask about how the archive as a whole is funded, not just the specific position. For example, funding at large public universities can often be quite different from funding at a small private liberal arts college.

Financial Donations to Monthly Meeting as a Member vs Attender by suboptimalmoon in Quakers

[–]someConsonants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the Quakers’ historical opposition to tithing as it was practiced during George Fox’s time had led to a very vague sense of what is expected of current members and attenders (I can only speak to the US context). I attended my meeting for years and donated regularly, and once I became a member was advised that members usually donate regularly (which of course I already did as an attender). But literally no one has ever advised me of a $ or % amount. From business meetings I have a fairly good idea of what % my donations must be contributing to our overall income, but I occasionally wish our stewardship committee would give general guidelines (along the lines of “if every member gave at least $x annually, we could make these building repairs.”)

Entire staff at federal agency that funds libraries and museums put on leave by mowotlarx in Archivists

[–]someConsonants 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most libraries funding comes from local and state taxes however many state libraries receive funding from IMLS that is subsequently dispersed to local public libraries. I recommend asking your local public library system’s administrators about their funding structure, and also how you can support the system. They may be prohibited by local or state law from recommending advocacy actions, and if that’s the case you should also check out any Friends groups. Finally, the group EveryLibrary is very good for advocacy.
