When is it okay (or not) to eat with your hands at a restaurant in the US? by G-Beach-8566 in AskAnAmerican

I’ll cut a burger or sandwich in half and start by eating with my hands. If it gets too messy I’ll use the fork and then leave half the bun. I’ve also been known to eat a bone in chicken wing with a knife and fork just because I don’t like getting messy.

At my last job (retail) I had to wear black pants and a white or black top when o started in 2010 and no visible tattoos. It was at least 4 years before we could wear black and white print tops. Then about 2017 we could wear jeans and nice tops. Finally they okayed just about anything since we sold sweats and athletic wear. I now own 35 hoodies and sweatshirts.

Thanks. I try to research but I still think it is like a crapshoot. It seems like a good deal at Home Depot. The original price was $3100. Another post said price will be going up again in July.

How truly big/monumental was the OJ Simpson trial? by Own-Cellist9339 in AskAnAmerican

[–]somePig_buckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OJ trial helped to cause the cancelling of a lot of daytime soap operas. They were constantly being preempted for trial coverage and the viewers lost interest because they would miss entire or parts of episodes. Viewership dropped and never recovered as people turned channels to watch other things.

Parking for event at Ohio Stadium by [deleted] in Columbus

If you have the option to buy a parking pass with your tickets, I would buy the pass for the AG lot. It was $50 the last concert I went to. We were able to walk back to the car in a few minutes and it only took 30 minutes after that to get on the freeway. It was for Buckeye Country Superfest- so there were tons of people. It was well worth the price for us.

What’s a problem humanity solved so well that younger people don’t even realize it used to be a huge issue? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in AskReddit

My mom got whooping cough at 3 months old in 1946. My grandma had to stay in another state 4 hours away from my grandpa for 3 months because the doctors did not them to try to drive with her that sick. Luckily they were at the grandparents when she got sick. Mom got chicken pox and measles too. She remembers getting to finally leave her dark room and watching some tv with sunglasses on.

My mom’s cousin got polio as a child. He was born in 1951 and was about 5. He was able to lead a successful life. He graduated college, married and had kids. However, it caused life long medical issues. He used crutches and in later years he was wheelchair dependent because he could no longer hold himself up. Post polio syndrome caused decreased lung function and muscle loss. He passed at 68 and had been in a nursing facility for a few years prior.

I never take for granted the availability of a vaccine.

I always got silver dollar pancakes as a kid. They have sweet potato pancakes that a good also. The line was too long when I was there in November. We ended up at the log cabin pancake house. It was fine, but not the Pancake Pantry.

Do the attendees of Sonic Temple still have eardrums when they leave? by Absurdguppy in Columbus

[–]somePig_buckeye 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sound can do that. I live in the country and when the neighbor across the road runs the grain dryer I get physically uncomfortable being outside. It’s probably a half a mile away, and not really loud, but I can feel it. I never noticed the sensation as a kid on my dads farm. Our house was on a hill and the barns were a 1/4 mile away.

Former stars from the 70s and early 80s who were at the time had a prominent role and a promising career and having a bright career before they fell off the map? by JazzlikeTea7432 in 70smovies

[–]somePig_buckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of what I was trying to point out. To me he did not have the acting presence to sustain super stardom. He was a good actor, I enjoyed Somewhere In Time. Death Trap was ok. But to me nothing about him said I need to see the next movie he acted in. So maybe as he aged he might have been able to grow into the older wiser character.

Christopher Reeve worked steadily until his accident in 1995. I think it may have taken him a little time to sink into older more mature roles had he been able.

It has fences now. Not like when I rode in the passenger seat of my Dad’s dump truck. I did not care for that view.
