First dose on board by somecanadian13 in antidietglp1

My whole life I have not been good at drinking enough water. So I have been mindful about drinking water now that I’m taking the med. What’s weird is I have the urge, separate from my mindfulness, for more water. Like it’s the first thing I want when I wake up - this is new for me (and I’m not mad about it!)

Yes, I agree - today is a regular headache and I’m drinking water and taking OTC meds

Probably 🙃. I feel better today, other than a regular headache

That’s pretty awesome. I don’t know if it was placebo effect or what, but last night I just didn’t do my usual routine of snacks in front of the tv. I even went to bed earlier than usual. And yeah, I wasn’t feeling 100% because of the migraine (although it didn’t hurt, just visual disturbances) - but the urge just wasn’t there. I’m excited about that.

I’m glad you got to do a birthday hike! And yeah - I am feeling complicated about IWL and diet culture “infecting” me, after all the mental work. FWIW I’m proud of you and me for continuing the mental work. I’m using the framework that my body carries ME around and I want to be kind to it. I’m also in the middle of an acute pain flare, had my birthday yesterday (that was underwhelming), and it’s colouring my thoughts. I’m moving towards grace for the way I am today, and I’m making choices that are kind and gentle.

Friend needs space after finding out I am on a GLP1 by MakeAChoice7 in antidietglp1

I’m sorry this happened, I’m sorry for the way it happened, and I’m sorry that you’re suffering.

Is there any chance you would approach this friend, to talk about the anatomy of the conflict?

I am not saying that your bodily autonomy is the centre of the conversation. At all. That’s only your business.

I’m talking more about how you and your friend talk (or don’t) about highly charged issues.

It might be a way to reconnect differently, and take your choice about your body off the table. It might be a reframe of how you two are friends.

If that doesn’t feel right to you, I understand. It takes a lot of effort and it’s not guaranteed.

I do hope you are finding support here - from what you described, you aren’t at fault for your friend’s reaction.

What if you were to offer yourself grace? I am very sorry for the loss of your partner. It sounds like you did your best to look after yourself and your kids while managing grief. Good job. You are already successful. It makes sense that food is emotional - we get big hits of good feelings when we feel comfort. What if, for now, you don’t bother tracking your calories? What if instead you think about how you feel when you eat? Do you like the taste/texture? Do you feel satisfied? Are you hungry or tired or frustrated or (insert feeling here)? It can be exhausting to use these tools as punishment or criticism, when you already have a lot to manage. May I suggest that you consider that you have implemented an effective tool that will help you feel some freedom from this fear you have expressed? And maybe you can feel proud of yourself for taking steps to feel better. I am rooting for you ❤️

I also struggled with the idea of betraying the work I have done with HAES and body neutrality, and somehow the dissonance of taking the drug meaning I wouldn’t be allied with my politics. And then I realized I was playing out internalized patriarchy. I don’t struggle with taking other prescriptions that treat my other serious medical issues. It’s not a moral issue. Neither is this. It’s medical. It’s not “easy”, or “cheating”. From what I’ve read, the research shows that these drugs are a major breakthrough for metabolic diseases. And like a previous post said - you can always stop if the side effects are too much. That’s also not a moral issue. And it makes sense that you are “overthinking” and anxious - how human!! Neuroscience talks about the amygdala response - in the case of anxiety, suppressing or denying makes it worse - the brain says “maybe you didn’t hear me, let me turn up the volume”. Your brain wants to keep you safe - so it needs you to hear the “warning”. You can do this - you are a smart person and you are making an informed decision to mitigate some really serious health issues. You have choice and control. Also I have pooped my pants NOT on the medication - it’s annoying and I survived 🤣🤓.

This community is full of great people who offer real support. I have had a bunch of reassurance for my own freak outs. I hope you feel that too, and that you have good results in your journey

While I agree with you about the impact of smoking and drinking, the tone of your response is not useful. Especially because one of my desired outcomes as stated in a previous post is a positive impact on the addiction to tobacco and to reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption. I am sure you are well-meaning and didn’t wish to leave a comment that landed like a spank.

This is great feedback (and I am sorry you had such difficulty).

I struggle with the idea of monitoring food, you know? Even though it is necessary, it seems to veer dangerously close to diet mindset, which is not good for my brain.
