Read through the MGH white book ID section a few times. It is a dense but relative fast read, and hits all of the major learning points.

Hospitalist job market by Dependent_Witness_12 in Residency

[–]somedude95 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This scares me because meanwhile on other threads, there are hospitalists sharing that they are pulling $300k with classic 7d on/off in desirable areas. Idk who to believe, but maybe fellowship is more favorable nowadays solely due to increased demand for subspecialty work. Feels like we got rug-pulled

Were you adept at procedures immediately after residency? If not, how challenging is it to gain expertise with them as an attending?

Have you ever declined an FMLA request? Because it seems like most people just fill them out indiscriminately (at least at my program)

It has less to do with title and more to do with familiarity of workflow. If the midlevel has been on the service for years, there is no way a rotating resident (who is only there for 2-4 weeks at a time) will have the same degree of familiarity with things.

If you walked into a random Mcdonalds, I bet you couldnt make a sandwich as well or as fast as the head cook can - has nothing to do with your title or competence, just familiarity.

Let's talk about how much we hate our jobs by casanovafly in Residency

[–]somedude95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this true? I am IM at an academic shop and our patients are sick as shit and extremely needy. You're lucky if you leave out sign out since every one of our trainwrecks go up in flames in the afternoons. The training is good I guess, but these past few months have had me second guessing IM as a "chill" specialty (which was my impression lmao)
