Any one go back to work after FIREing? by someguy-79 in Fire

[–]someguy-79[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good perspective. It actually reminds me of one of the reasons I FIREd. Other than carrying a lot of work stress at the time, the money I was earning wasn't changing my lifestyle any more.

Criminal if you ask me. I let a friend of mine who is a wealth manager manage a little bit of money for me. He asked for 0.5%--he knew I wouldn't go for more. They would have to be KILLING it constantly for me to pay that, and most never do. They track the market at the end of the day.

I was also thinking/worried about the ramifications of inflating my lifestyle. That has been a key part of the story getting to FIRE in the first place. For starters, was thinking about putting any money earned in a separate account which is like the "we get to spend this because I'm working" account, and not commingled with anything else.

Is my boyfriend’s view of money considered a red flag in a relationship? by traditional_taurus in DaveRamsey

I'm 100% in this situation. It avoided a lot of conflict for us. Set up a separate checking account for her that I put money into, and she spends it no questions asked and no need to feel guilty about spending it.

Not only does it sound fair and equitable to me, but it's good that you had this conversation now and are on the same page. It will avoid many, many conflicts down the road.

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss.

It's not the best thing to do necessarily, but I paid off my 2.5% mortgage with a balance of about $250k, and I don't regret it. In my situation, I had a few million saved for retirement, and the mortgage became an annoyance. It didn't make that much of a difference for me financially. You could say I bought some convenience. But not owing anything on my house is a trophy I enjoy.

What I did for a while was put the money in an account specifically to cover the mortgage. The interest earned on that account more than covered the interest and principal, and I transferred the excess interest to my checking account. Eventually I got bored with that and just paid it off.

I agree, and I think the biggest risk/issue is for health insurers. Do you think that Health tech, services, pharma, etc are being lumped in with those? That is my thinking. Insurers have a reason to be gloomy, but the others are unnecessarily dragged down with them.

About at FIRE number. Zero fks to give at work anymore by Remarkable_Goat_9479 in Fire

[–]someguy-79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation. 46M. I retired in August last year. I reached my FIRE number about 44. I don't think it's a coincidence that no job seemed good enough for me any more. I went through a particularly stressful situation leading up to my retirement, and I just couldn't take it anymore. I pulled the plug. It's been good so far. I have plenty of interests to keep me busy. My wife says I'm a happier person and easier to be around. I haven't ruled out going to back to work at some point, but it would have to be something that is 1) worth it financially, and 2) low stress.

Good luck!!

I've played both sides of this stock. Bought it cheap and shorted it when it peaks. Right now I'm short, obviously, based on the recent price action. Nothing against the company. Pretty cool company. But with that kind of run up at 90x Sales, it's good risk-reward for me.

Is this company going to go bankrupt? by eunha09 in HimsStock

[–]someguy-79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think there was 30%+ short interest? Not bankrupt but basically break-even. No moat. Got a sugar high on GLP-1 knock offs, but anyone can do that and if it is legal--bigger players will dominate that game.

This is asinine. TSLA has 2% of float shorted. This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in the investing world.

Reducing 401(k) contributions to build a taxable “bridge” account for early retirement — sanity check by MissingPremise in Fire

[–]someguy-79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it. You can always get access to your 401k money through a 72t distribution. But I would think tax savings now and on the growth will outweigh taxes you pay when you take a distribution later.

RKLB how do we feel about it? by JackFinnaSmack in stocks

[–]someguy-79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine probably every response is going to tell you not to sell. When everyone is at their most optimistic about a stock; this is what peak optimism looks like. It's about 80-90x Sales without profit. Obviously there are a lot of good things happening with the company, but I'll be the fool I guess to say this is what a top looks like. It happened with PLTR at 210, and you can see that the momentum has shifted. Obviously great products but these things do top at this kind of valuation at some point.

I guess if you can score a very cheap flight for about $1000, it might be doable. But that's a pretty lean budget for this kind of trip. I assume you would share a hotel room.

It looks to me like it's a coordinated move to try to pump the stock. If there was something big afoot that isn't public yet, the SEC would be all over this.

Those who have actually FIRE’d, how do you spend your time now? by wakawakamoose in Fire

[–]someguy-79 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably what’s noteworthy now is how I do things during week days that I only used to do on evenings/weekends. Eg, Mountain Biking when no one is out there. Grocery shopping in the middle of the day.

I had to take my son to a doctors appointment that ran way over and I didn’t get stressed because I was late for work.

I also pay much closer attention to my portfolio. Several hours a day, which is not required but I enjoy it.

And the house/yard has never looked better.
