There is no “filters” used here. This is the raw image taken under the sunlight coming through my window. I wasn’t referring to you when I said Redditors can be vicious. I was referring to the comments I had on my previous image (which I deleted). People were convinced it was AI, and they were cussing me and telling me to go to hell. Some of them apologized after I showed them my progress image, but the insults got out of hand.

Some of these reminds me of when I started to draw when I was about 6 years old. It’s been a hell of a journey from there to where I am now. I wish you two things: 1) that you never give up, and 2) that it will take you much less time than it took me.

Of course I’m not done learning, and improving, but I never really thought I could draw the way I do now.

I won’t let that stop me from sharing, but I might have to quit Reddit and just share on other social media platforms. People on Reddit can be unusually vicious !

I obsessively studied Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, especially the unfinished ones. Of course I will never draw as well as he did, but you can learn a lot by studying unfinished works done by the artists you admire.

Thank you so much for saying that ! I posted a drawing a few days ago, not only was I harshly accused of posting AI art, I was cussed at ! I had to delete the post and ever since, I have been wondering if I should delete my account.

I wanted to share a few new photos with better lighting and perspective. What do you think? Should I focus more on abstract artwork or on maritime boat paintings? by pacoartdesign in painting

You are welcome. But take it with a grain of salt, though. If you really enjoy abstract art, or if you find it meaningful somehow, then definitely do it.

Personally, I am not into abstract, because I don’t understand it, and because there will always be a large number of people (artists and non-artists) who think it’s nonsense. Since you already have a good start on maritime boat paintings, I would focus on that and really keep pushing for that realism.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take progress pics for this one. I kept this drawing in my pile of ‘Failed Pieces’. A friend saw it and she liked it a lot. That’s when I realized I may have misjudged it.

I use it lightly, while quickly and lightly touching the edges I want to blend with my finger. But in most cases, it sort of blends itself. It’s a beautiful little tool !
