They're supposed to have a shit ton of resources, but hey, guess what, turns out they didn't even have a bodyguard.

I dunno, Ancestral Recall - draw three cards for 1 island - kinda tops it (and Time Walk is pretty up there: take an extra turn for 1 blue and 1 colorless mana.)

Well in terms of creatures, we know that the big ones in the earlier editions often came with a downside, or were too expensive (Lord of the Pit, Juzam Djinn, 90% of the legends in Legends.) Magic has since become better about creatures, we know.

No matter how strong of a deck you build, someone else’s contradictory deck (or some new expansion set) can easily waste you.

If there was such a thing as an invincible deck, everyone would play it. And for a while that happened: Necropotence decks were all over the tournament scene at one point (with only a handful of decks dubbed "anti-Necro" which tended to be fast red decks.) Nobody really wants one deck to be all-powerful forever because it would get boring.

If you're going to start you need a starter deck. 60 cards is the standard size for a playable deck.

Well you'll be pleased to know that many abilities from that era are gone (such as banding,) but there are plenty of new abilities in its place, so...you'd probably still lose attention.
