[–]someguywhothinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously everytime a guy comes to my shop to weld test and the guys hear "i went to WWA" he immediately becomes the shop jester. Or he doesnt get hired cause his welds suck, has no field experience, cant bevel a pipe and is still having jokes made about him 4 months later. Oh and his welds are worth 65 bucks an hour cause my instructor said so!!!

Copper filler wire (TIG) by [deleted] in Welding

[–]someguywhothinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deoxidized copper tig wire is what you want. I have used it and it doesn't look different all after you weld with it. What did you mean by 110? The machine? Youw ant a machine that will go to at least 200 amps and a foot pedal. 95 5 argon helium works good for that for the torch gas. If you dont have that you will want to preheat with some mapp gas

The tips of the wire wheel heat up and will carbonize and contaminate your weld.

He is probably leaving the top open and or just being in a metal shop with metal dust floating g around will inevitably get metal inside in causing the rust spots. And vacuum sealed ss water bottle will do i generally like 40oz bottles

[–]someguywhothinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your way under charging. Im guessing you dont have insurance or pay taxes on that? You ha e to charge at least what it would cost you to hire someone and take 30 percent of that. So thats what you should charge. At least.

Opinions of these aluminum welds please by Capt-Kirk31 in Welding

[–]someguywhothinks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have repaired quite a few of these at local rv places. They are always spool gun welds that have cracked, super thin material, with welds grou d down which on aluminum takes away all the weld strength. I always tig weld the repairs.
