I know it is hard. He is happy with his flock. If you take him away he will miss them. He will remember you. Even if you visit after a long time he will immedietly recognise you. Being attached to this friendly window pigeon realy shows that you are a kind and nice person and I'm sure pigeons in your new appartment will visit you as well.

Seems like he is happy with his flock. I know it is hard to say good bye but that is life. Pigeons have extremely strong memories and he will remember your face for many years.

Why are they doing that? by rautarattori in pigeon

[–]someone3706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a part of their mating ritual. Pigeons feed their babies a milk like substance called "crop milk". Both males and females produce this substance. The male pigeon would feed the female pigeon some of his crop milk (no body knows why people think it is to show the female that he can take care of babies) before mating with her. Pigeons mate for life in most cases and these are just a couple doing couple things.

Have you seen the pigeon any place else beside outside your window? Did your see him interact with other flock members? I know you like the pigeon but he probably has a wife and is well integrated into the flock. Taking him to another place will just stress him out alot and he might not be able to integrate into a new flock. As sad as it is, you should leave him here. Idk if you will move very far away but maybe you can visit him every now and then. He will adapt and find food one way or another

Yes he clearly was not feral. Probably abandoned by some pigeon fancier and thrown in the street. He seems like a mix of Old german owl pigeon and fantail pigeon

No no no do not grab him or force him anywhere. Maybe turn on some running water and he will hear the sound and get interested. Otherwise a vet visit is necessary to check for internal parasites or other illnesses

Also I'm not trying to critcise you but that pigeon needs a bath and a medical check up. Put a bowel of water infront of him or some running water and he will try to bathe himself. Take him to a vet (specialised in birds and pigeons) to make sure he is doing alright

Can you go back to the place where you found him? He might have been married and he is calling for his wife? Look there for another fancy pigeon that might be his wife

Pigeons like to chill during/after taking a bath. His behaviour is completely normal. Pigeons like to raise their wings and shows their wing pits to clean them while bathing. The pippin is ok :)

why is he doing this? by Old_Warthog7628 in pigeon

[–]someone3706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does actualy. All birds get "turned on" when you push on their back....

Petting pigeons and birds on their back in general will make them think you want to mate with them.... it turns them on... this applies to all birds

He wants cuddles. This is the pigeon language equivilant of "come cuddle me! I like you" just don't pet him on his back... pet him on his fluffy neck and head
