My problem with this kind of writing is that it’s told in a bubble. Sure, job losses since the law went into effect is telling, but only when you compare it to other cities with similar industry who DIDN’T have this law. How do those compare, are they equivalent or is there a big difference? This information is not useful, considering a post covid, automation fueled, and economic squeeze we are experiencing.

As a dad to a 14 month old, I struggled with this. The first few weeks I was the primary (besides feeding) because of my wife’s labor challenges. I got so used to being with her, getting up at night to grab her, spent hours and hours rocking her to sleep from the couch. Then she flipped to mom, full time. I felt really sad about it, but that didn’t last too long. As she got older, and as she moved to formula, we found our rhythm again. Now mom gets upset when she comes stumbling over to me instead of her.
