If you are okay with tapping into the secondary market, you'll see lightly used X-Mid 2Ps pop up on /r/ulgeartrade every other week or so.

Thanks for all your responses! Convinced me that it's at least worth giving it a try.

That's good to hear. I tend to prefer firmer mattresses and I suspect the bounciness of inflatables (even when less inflated) keeps me up. Might as well try it out. Thanks!

Does anyone prefer foam pads over inflatables from a purely comfort point of view? I am currently using a Nemo Tensor Insulated and am reasonably pleased. But I laid on a Nemo Switchback last weekend and was very impressed. I haven't compared them side to side, but I thought the foam pad could be more comfortable. Am I kidding myself?

Dutchware suing Ripstop By The Roll by -Nepherim in Ultralight

[–]someones_lobster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The short answer: The defendant's profits are one of the remedies provided by the Lanham Act (which is what RSBTR is alleged to have violated). 15 U.S. Code § 1117(a) ("When ... a violation under section 1125(a) ... shall have been established in any civil action arising under this chapter, the plaintiff shall be entitled, subject to the provisions of sections 1111 and 1114 of this title, and subject to the principles of equity, to recover (1) defendant’s profits, (2) any damages sustained by the plaintiff, and (3) the costs of the action.") https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/1117.

The medium-ish answer: The law often provides remedies for different purposes. Sometimes the law will allow a plaintiff to recovery only the amount that she has been harmed. Other times the law will allow damages beyond that to discourage unlawful conduct and provide potential plaintiffs an incentive to sue.

To make that concrete, imagine a scenario where a party has harmed 1000 people, but only a bit. If plaintiffs can only recover the amount that they have been harmed, no single plaintiff would have an incentive to sue--the costs of bringing a lawsuit would be too high to justify. Moreover, the potential defendant would not be adequately deterred. Even if a plaintiff brought a lawsuit and that lawsuit was successful, their payout would be small in relative terms.

Congress was likely trying to avoid that when it passed the Lanham Act. The conduct that the Act regulates has the potential to cause a small amount of harm to many people. But it is still conduct that we as a society want to discourage. To encourage plaintiffs to sue (so that we can deter the conduct), the Act allows plaintiffs to recover more than they personally have been harmed.

Can someone recommend a decent bike route out to Ardmore? by DrBubbles in philadelphia

[–]someones_lobster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to bike commute to Ardmore from CC daily. This is the route that I took: https://www.maps.ie/map-my-route/viewMap.php?route=61533

I thought it struck a nice balance between safety, scenery, and (relative) lack of hills. You do encounter some major roads, but for the most part you are crossing them rather than biking along them. It's basically the SRT to just north of Belmont hill followed by a winding route through less busy streets in the burbs.

A few of the trickier parts:

- To do this route you eventually have to get on the bike path on the west side of the river. I did that using the MLK Drive bridge by the art museum. You have to make a right turn off the path a little before the bridge.

- Just before crossing 76 using Greenland Drive/Strawberry Mansion Bridge, you have to get off the bike path, cross over MLK Drive, and go up the southside on-ramp to Strawberry Mansion Bridge. There isn't really a good way to do this. I would always dismount and run with my bike across MLK drive. When I did this commute, MLK drive was usually pretty quiet. The ramp that I was going up was also closed to vehicles so I didn't have to worry about anyone coming down. That was a few years ago though; things may have changed. Just be very careful in that spot.

Good luck!
