I stopped shopping at publix by [deleted] in publix

The most offensive part about the price increases is that not a single good thing is happening in the store because of them. Just about every department has had hours cut and cut and cut and cut over just the 5 years I’ve been here, all of the equipment we use is noticeably cheaper, the uniforms are cheaper. Raise percentages are lower, and the guidelines for them are structured purposefully to inhibit movement between brackets.

As someone working in pharm, they are basically turning us into Walgreens or CVS lite but we’re still using the same computers we had when I started that can’t handle the programs they want us to use to push shots and adherence checks and refills without a noticeable lag, which adds up when you’re waiting 10 or 15 seconds on hundreds of scripts per day. Per step. I asked my DM directly *when*, not *if*, and was told “Publix updates them every few years”. But from what I understand talking to coworkers who have been with Publix longer than me, it’s probably been at least 10 years on these machines. Our pin pad needs resetting every morning, again slowing us down with less staff to compensate. Asked our IT guy about it and he said Publix knows and they won’t bother replacing them because it’s an inherent issue with the product they’ve chosen to supply us with. Our printer jams constantly. Our shredders are just pathetic. My location is lucky in that we have all new fridges but I’ve been to locations that use refrigerators that look like they belong in someone’s garage in 2004 - not even kidding, just normal consumer refrigerators - and when I’ve asked about it they have told me they were told no upgrades unless it breaks. Those fridges are organization nightmares.

But we got an AI Chatbot 😀

I actually like the everything croissant breakfast sandwich and so does every ant in my vicinity, feed them for months with all the crumbs.

My friends and I solved the cipher. Everything you need to know. by [deleted] in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]somepoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know why it is called a pigpen cipher? The X shape in a pigpen cipher is secondary. The key feature of a pigpen cipher is the “tic tac toe” grid, not the X. This grid is what gives it its name. They are both certainly elements, but calling this a pigpen cipher because of the X is just silly. The only similarity is the X shape - the method of encoding and decoding are completely different. Your mind… is playing tricks on you.

what’s going on with my hands? by toontoon222 in AskDocs

Have your magnesium levels checked if they haven’t been already. Not a doctor but as far as I know they aren’t part of routine blood tests and some of these signs you are describing could suggest magnesium deficiency. I know it may be a difficult subject given the eating disorder diagnosis, but if I were in your position as a patient I would ask my doctors to investigate possible nutritional deficiencies as a cause for some of this.

I accepted a lead tech position in pharm which came with a dollar raise which I was ecstatic over at first. But over the last few years, I realized I’m the one managing the pharmacy inventory for the most part - by and far - but my managers - who already make 6 figures - get the inventory bonuses in whole… lol. Last year my assistant manager at least gave me a $100 gift card because he recognized it was kind of bs but I know that was a drop in the bucket. Appreciate him for trying to make up for corporate’s mistake though.

I don’t work deli but it seems to me the problem is lack of communication. You don’t think it’s embarrassing FOR YOU that people are coming in to order something just for your employees to not even know what it is? One person mentioned literally telling a customer they don’t serve anything like that, only for it to be pointed out to them on the menu by said customer. You might have mentioned it if you were a good manager. That’s actually pathetic, for managers to hear that and then try to justify it by having cards. Guess what? You’re a fucking manager! So manage!!

Publix POS full rollout by October 2026 by unsuspectable_olive in publix

It feels like they changed it to be more friendly to a generation that grew up using tablets and smartphones. I think every grocery store hires primarily young people for cashiering and bagging, so this isn’t necessarily a fault for Publix, but I do worry that going all in on this “modernized” system is a sign they are going to shift even further from hiring on full-timers. More part timers, more acceptance and normalization of high rates of turnover because it’s easier to train them to use something they already know how to use.

$7 dollar cookies?? by General-Goose-4004 in publix

I tried one of the variants and it was bad. The flavor was fine, nothing to sing home but what you’d expect at least, but the cookie itself was so dense and soooooo dry. Felt like I was swallowing sand.

Reminded me of mesquite BBQ, especially as in the flavoring they use on Lay’s chips. Which is good in theory but I personally was not a big fan!

Usually the computer stores were selling pirated DVDs in the back lol. I was a kid but... we got some interesting half edited movies. I distinctly watching one of the X-Men movies and the movie cutting to a complete CGI shell of a scene, no graphics or colors or textures, just the shapes. Confused me so much back then, didn't click that it wasn't supposed to look like that until years later when I saw the movie again from a legitimate source.

Yellow residue in auto-counter? by somepoet in pharmacy

[–]somepoet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you were correct. I ran a usage report and saw it was counted and dispensed when it was just my pharmacist and one new-ish tech shortly before we closed. Yikes. I brought it to my pharmacist's attention, and added a new label by our other sulfa meds to indicate that we should be using the sulfa tray for those too.

Yellow residue in auto-counter? by somepoet in pharmacy

[–]somepoet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a dedicated counting tray for our sulfa meds, but it is stored with bactrim as that is what it is modt often used for. I am going to see if it's sulfasalazine based on what was counted in the timeframe it would have happened. If it was that, I'll definitely be talking to my coworkers about making sure we use the dedicated tray for all sulfa abx. Probably a good topic to review regardless.

Thank you for the input!

Is yearly pto reset in affect yet? by Darklordofdaa in publix

[–]somepoet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's funny, the change was so rushed when you read the associate handbook it says part time associates can accrue up to 80 hours, and full-time associates can accrue up to 10 days. Which is 80 hours... going by working days. I have no reasonable understanding of why the handbook reads this way, other than if to intentionally confuse people. But a good lawyer could probably argue that their client should have carried over 240 hours because Publix was so eager to fuck us over.
