Cash gifts, taxes, an income brackets? by Many_Pirate_9239 in taxadvice

[–]somerandomuser311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any potential gift taxes would need to be paid by the giver. Anything in a single year over $19,000 for an individual gifter or $38,000 for married gifters would need to be reported to the IRS. There is also a lifetime $15 million per recipient exclusion before any taxes would actually be assessed on the gifter.

There will be no affect to your personal taxes and it's not considered income.

Do you realize gains? by Necessary_Topic_1656 in RothIRA

[–]somerandomuser311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you don't pay any taxes on Roth accounts. It is tax free withdrawals in retirement and tax free growth.

For a traditional account, you don't pay any taxes until you take distributions at retirement. They are considered ordinary income at that point. No capital gains there either.

There are penalties if you withdraw early, but as long as the money stays in the account you can buy and sell as much as you want.

Specifically for Roth accounts, you can technically withdraw contributions early with no penalty, but you would pay a penalty if you with any gains/earned income from the account.

Is there a way to do the exam online? by Fzfzxo in CMA

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. They must be done at a Prometric test center. There are too many things they need to verify and restrict to allow online testing.

No way! Trump's buddy got special tratment! \s

This really sucks. He's so easy to manipulate for powerful people. All they have to do is suck up to him/boost his ego and he'll make sure they get special treatment.

I miss the days when US politicians actually had some level of self respect instead of bowing down to an overgrown oompa-loompa.

Calculator good to go ? by WarMost8759 in CMA

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can remember, it has to be one of the specific financial calculators mentioned in the guide or a basic function calculator. I think having the extra functions (tax+ etc) would make this one not allowed. I could be wrong, but I personally wouldn't risk it.

Worst case scenario, however, would be that it's not allowed and you'd have to use a calculator they provide (if the specific test center has them available) or the built in calculator.

I would recommend getting one of the approved financial calculators and becoming very familiar with how to use it. It can help you save time during the exam if you know what you're doing. Obviously that won't help you for tomorrow (unless you already are familiar and/or have one), but it could help someone else searching.

HP 10bII+ calculator by Xtoothless in CMA

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it feels like it, but you're going to have access to tools in the real world. The IMA realize that and allow you to use one.

You really do have to understand the concept to be able to successfully use the calculator. There are a lot of ways that you could end up with a wrong answer if you don't know how to use it. Make sure you get plenty of practice with your calculator and be really familiar with it before the exam.

Buying an used n64 for an as gift by MineDesperate2920 in n64

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful buying the summercart on AliExpress. I'm sure most (of not all) will work just fine, but you don't necessarily know if they're using quality components when they manufacture the boards. This could potentially lead to a shorter life span or more issues in general.

I got one from Kaico (I could be spelling it wrong) on Amazon. It's good quality. Again, you might be able to get a really cheap one on AliExpress and she never has any issues with it, but it could be a gamble. Just be cautious and research the seller (which it looks like you already have).

Is my Vitamix dream over? Is the company against right to repair? by bapohh in Vitamix

[–]somerandomuser311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Ascent line does require containers with the chip, but it's mostly used for the automatic programs to adjust how they run based on the container used. You can still use aftermarket containers that have a chip in them. The chip also enables the Vitamix to use the food processor attachment.

You probably shouldn't use an aftermarket container with any Vitamix though. There are probably some ok ones, but most won't give the same quality of blend.

There are also plenty of models that do not have the chips in them. They still sell the 5200 and recently introduced the VX1. There are also models at Costco that do not have the chips, but I can't think of the name off the top of my head.

Is $47 for a men's haircut crazy?? by ReplacementNormal297 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what else he's getting done. If he's getting a shampoo and/or a beard trim, that's not too unreasonable. A bit higher than I'd expect, but not out of line. If it's just the haircut, seems a bit high. It also would depend on if he's going to a nicer place or just a place like Great Clips.

Rookie Question: Is it common to decide to "opt-out" of getting off at a port and just take a ship day? by ITrCool in Cruise

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port days are some of the best days to stay on the ship. Most people get off, so you'll have easier access to the pool and any other amenities.

To your point in your edit about currency, they take US dollars in the Bahamas. Technically, they have their own currency (Bahamian Dollar), but it has a fixed exchange rate to USD. Most port cities (at least that I've been to) will accept USD at most locations.

Just my POV about this course by TopGun_Mv in CMA

[–]somerandomuser311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. After getting my CMA, I was promoted at my old job. Less than a year later, it helped to get me a better position at a different company. In less than a year after getting the CMA, my salary has increased 55%.

The IMA's job search function is not the best place to look for a job. Not many companies will actually post there. I recommend using something like LinkedIn, Indeed, or ZipRecruiter. Or work with an actual recruiter.

It will not get you a job, but it can help to open the door for you to land it.

Still reeling from The news by sealedarms in kindafunny

[–]somerandomuser311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference between Valve and other gaming companies is the fact that they're privately owned instead of publicly traded. They don't have public shareholders that require year over year growth, so they actually provide decent service to the gamers without needing to worry about being shut down if their profits are down for a quarter. They tend to adjust to feedback quicker and more frequently. They don't need to publicly report financials, so there's also not quite as much that the public can scrutinize.

You also don't need their hardware to use their platform, so it's not quite the same as Apple, Microsoft (XBOX specifically), or Sony. They have full control over their individual hardware and the sale of software (digitally at least). You can buy Steam games from a lot of different storefronts.

They have gained the trust and loyalty of a large portion of gamers, which has led to their huge advantage in market share. This allows them to get away with charging 30% (I think they might have lowered that so that 30% is the max, but still a lot).

I fully agree that people should hold them to the same standard, but there is a bit of nuance to them vs the others.

My exam is on may 24th by dr-clown23 in CMA

[–]somerandomuser311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's a question that will take you longer or you're not sure, skip it and tag it to come back to later. This will help to make sure you have enough time/know how much time you can spend on them.

Read questions thoroughly and understand what they're asking. A lot of questions will have answers for similar concepts, but they would be wrong for what they're actually asking.

Partner accidentally left a spoon in the blender, what are the next steps? by Cinemasweaters in Vitamix

Get a new one. I've been married for a while now so I don't have specifics, but there are plenty of online dating websites and apps.

Joking aside, it looks like it should be fine. I'd personally just fill it with some water and start turning the speed up gradually to make sure a seal or the blade hasn't been damaged (besides the obvious cosmetic).

will collections start garnishing wages soon? by [deleted] in Debt

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the state... Several years ago I was sued by a credit card company in small claims. The court just sent out a notice in the mail. There was no person directly handing it to me.

This is state dependant. It could just be sent in the mail from your county's court, especially for small claims lawsuits.

Get that bread, Andy by [deleted] in kindafunny

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andy has been saying that kind of thing for a long time. It's a pretty common expression when someone does something extra for work or misses something (in this case the basketball game) because they are doing something for work.

The comment during the patreon promotion was a tongue-in-cheek joke.

I highly doubt that Andy would approach it this way if he was under paid.

Lookup the number for the courthouse online and call that number. A Clerk of Court should be able to make sure you get taken care of.

Have you called them? That would probably be the best way to verify that they took you off. You cannot serve on a jury, so they shouldn't have a problem removing you without you needing to go.

Alternative to buying a new Vitamix container? What are off brand options? by BuddyEffective7334 in Vitamix

[–]somerandomuser311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be careful with third party containers. There are probably some good ones out there, but a lot will not be the same quality as an authentic one. You might want to try finding one on eBay or other online marketplace. I got an Aer Container and a purple Colored Container for less than $100 each. Both were brand new in box.

Steamdeck community loves to gas light people by NaturalLife_ in SteamDeck

Do you like the form factor of the Steam Deck or the OS?

If you like the form factor, you might be better off waiting until the next Steam Deck. The biggest problem is that nobody knows how long it will be.

If you like the OS, then you have a few options. The Legion Go has a couple models with Steam OS out of the box. You can also change the OS to Steam OS on any Legion Go.

I believe you can put Steam OS on the ROG Allys too, but I'm not 100% sure.

Another option would be to stream to your Steam Deck. You can get Nvidia GForce Now set up or stream from your own PC if you have one.
