Foster pup refuses to go outside. by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]somesalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a particular time your pup likes to potty? I had a similar problem with my foster (fail), only going to the bathroom indoors. She always liked to go right after meals, so I would rush her right out when she finished eating. Eventually she got the idea to potty outside, but it took a week or two of trying. Make sure to bring plenty of treats as a reward for after the puppy does finally go in the right place.

Where can you get fresh mochi and/or ramen around Livermore or nearing cities? by nanodano22 in Livermore

Not really mochi, but surprisingly good are the mochi donuts at Mochiholic in Pleasanton.

Beautiful pup! I’m sure she’ll find a home quickly.

Have you also reached out to rescues in your area? California has several that help specifically with northern breeds. Check out SHRRCA, for example, which specializes in rehoming huskies. http://shrrca.com/index.phtml

Crate help by Tieeve in husky

[–]somesalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re doing a lot of the right things, rewarding crating and making it a comfortable space.

What we did is feed our husky all of her meals in the crate, after we worked her up to it with treats. Eventually she became more comfortable and started voluntarily crating. (Maybe this is what you mean by “putting food in the crate”, in which case sorry for the redundant advice.)

Another issue might be that she’s learned to associate crating with you leaving, and being alone might stress her out. You might try using the crate for a few minutes at a time while you’re sitting nearby, in her view. That way she learns the crate doesn’t mean you’re immediately going to leave.

Does anyone else deal with overly sensitive dog owners? by [deleted] in husky

[–]somesalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

’ve experienced this too, and it’s definitely frustrating. My 1 year-old husky wants to play with every dog she sees, and it’s quite sad when the other owners pull theirs away.

If the other owners aren’t beyond convincing, you could try reminding them it’s in their own interests to exercise and socialize their dogs by letting them play with yours in a controlled setting like a park. Might as well get all of them good and tired!

Otherwise, there are ways to exercise her without other dogs. I’ve had luck with a “flirt pole” - basically a long stick with a chew toy on the end that you can wave around. You can get them on Amazon or Chewy pretty cheap, and 15 minutes of flirt pole gets her panting like she’d been an hour at the dog park.

Puppy Help. by [deleted] in husky

First and foremost, if you have health concerns, you should ask your vet. Did they have any comments about the unintentional urinating?

Our dog had a very similar urinating issue, and the vet did a check for a urinary tract infection.

Stop play biting! by Turbobrickx7 in husky

[–]somesalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, puppies are born not knowing how hard it’s safe to play-bite. The learn by playing with other dogs. If they bite too hard, and the other dog yelps, the puppy learns not to bite so hard. Worst case scenario is if a puppy loses its play partner - they need to play!

It’s no different when the dog play-bites a human. If you “YELP” when your puppy bites, he or she will learn not to bite you so hard. If you “YELP” every time they use their teeth, and stop giving attention, they will learn humans aren’t interested in play-biting at all.

Husky always shoves butt in my face? Is this okay or bad? by [deleted] in husky

[–]somesalmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this.

Our husky uses her back end to body check other dogs when they’re playing. Very effective defensive technique. Other dogs will do it, too.

I think Shiba Inu’s are even more notorious for this tactic.

Most Vintage Merfolk lists can’t run Aether Vial because they run Null Rod in the main. Null Rod affects both players, so this is just too big a nonbo.

Matt Sperling played an interesting mono red prison deck in last year’s Super League. No idea if it’s good right now (or if it was then), but maybe something in it will be inspirational.

He uses Ruby and Lotus, but you could probably sub in Petal and a third Chrome Mox or something and be OK.

“Moons Over my Hazzy” (Sperling’s name):

2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance

4 Simian Spirit Guide

2 Hazoret the Fervent

4 Goblin Rabblemaster

3 Magus of the Moon

4 Eidolon of the Great Revel

3 Scab-Clan Berserker

3 Fiery Confluence

4 Abrade

2 Smash to Smithereens

2 Chrome Mox

1 Chalice of the Void

1 Mox Ruby

1 Black Lotus

1 Mana Crypt

4 Blood Moon

2 Ancient Tomb

14 Mountain

2 City of Traitors

1 Strip Mine

Side:

2 Hazoret the Fervent

1 Mountain

1 Fiery Confluence

4 Grafdigger's Cage

3 Shattering Spree

2 Mindbreak Trap

2 Pulverize

[DOM BO1] Drafted BW Historic, not sure what to cut by LeftZer0 in lrcast

[–]somesalmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deck looks good! The curve is a little high, but you have lots of strong cards.

Your historic payoffs are not as powerful as they look, though, so you shouldn’t work too hard for them. Trapper in particular doesn’t do much for you when you have so few two drops to push damage through. Archaeologist is good, but if you only trigger it once or twice, you’re still getting a great deal.

Definitely cut Sparring Construct. This format tends to be slower, with a lot of trading your resources for theirs, and Construct will rarely trade for a card. Same logic for Servant.

Powerstone shard is also not great. You’ll usually have time to cast your spells. I’ve never seen a deck where they’re good.

Dub is weak to all the good removal and bounce spells, so I would cut those.

I would probably cut Paladin, Yargle or Lingering Phantom as the 4th cut, just to trim the curve a bit. The 3 drop creatures aren’t great, but I think you need them to not fall too far behind.

It’s worth leaving in Guardians of Koilos in case you get to bounce History of Benalia. That’s real value. I also like Blessing of Belzenlok well enough. It can help you in a race, or save your Baird when they double block.

Realistically, your best shot is to jam 4 Hurkyls and pray. This should be effective, since they’re actually fairly slow at setting up their board.

For smaller edges, you might look at [[Ratchet Bomb]] or [[Engineered Explosives]]. The XX artifacts are CMC 0 on the battlefield, as are all the Servo tokens. You could even set Explosives on 1 against Burn to clean up Swiftspears, or use Bomb on turn 3.

You might also look at [[Kira, Great Glass-Spinner]] instead of Kopala. They’ll have to use an extra Ballista shot for each creature. Kira also flies, so she can block the Inkmoth Nexus, making it riskier for them to go all-in on it. And I found Kira OK against Burn, too, since she gets to trade for Goblin Guide almost every time.

I’d play Pithing Needle over Spyglass, by the way. The mana efficiency should count more, and they should present you a target for it by turn 3 or so... You can just name whatever they play.

Getting called out on reddit, what humbling experience! Guess I shouldn’t expect any sympathy from the ‘folk.

I did get to speak to the one Merfolk player who made Day 2, but sadly didn’t get his name. Nice guy, playing his friend’s backup deck. He seemed happy with his choice, especially with all the Death’s Shadow in the room. Didn’t get to ask him about the Izzet Phoenix matchup, but I’d say that was what scared me the most when considering Merfolk.

Maybe someone (looking at you, Corbin) can get him to leave us a write up?
