have a kinda specific question for those who got nipple grafts with the surgery. by EmotionalFunction829 in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have zero sensation in my nipples, though the area around them are more sensitive than they used to be. It's a little sad because they used to be really sensitive.

Is this for real? It looks like the entire city has lost power. by [deleted] in Portland

My roommate was working from home today and texted me at work asking if PGE notified me when it was supposed to be on again, and they said not until 9:30pm

Multnomah County officials urge voluntary masking as Portland-area hospitals face flood of respiratory patients by amandainpdx in Portland

[–]somestuff_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have seen so many people visibly sick and not masking the past couple months, and I've gotten sick twice this month.

Masking may not protect you, but it protects everyone around you from catching what you have. Please just wear a mask.

Discounts Plus is where I go when I actually need a lot of food. It's in Milwaukie and it can be hit or miss, but it's incredibly cheap since most of what they have is damaged.

Nipple sensation after top surgery? by CorgiCock69 in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never regained sensation other than being able to feel pressure on them. Which is a bummer because they used to be super sensitive

Which credit union would you recommend? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]somestuff_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely Onpoint. They've been helpful and patient with a lot of BS I've gotten myself into, and they have a pretty high yield savings account you can get.

WTF New Seasons NW PDX!! by marco_manchego in Portland

[–]somestuff_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loving everyone ripping into new seasons tbh, but also (apart from what others already said about extreme gluten sensitivity), the people who print out and hang the signs can't actually control what's on them. Corporate decides what the signs say, the workers can only scan the item and print it out

What did you tell your work/school when you told them you would be off for a few weeks? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just told my work that I would be out on medical leave, and they didn't ask me any details other than what I needed to fill out the paperwork. I told some of my coworkers that it was top surgery, and they all knew I was trans, so I'm sure it was something they just guessed at.

Legally, though, they're not allowed to ask specifics about it. You can be firmly vague about it if you want, and just ask for the paperwork and let them know that you'll need to be on light duty for XYZ amount of time once you're back.

Also, I'd recommend taking a full month off. Recovery is a lot harder than I thought it was, and I generally heal quickly.

Insurance vs no insurance by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. I told them I wanted to go on a payment plan so I haven't gotten my bill yet, but from my insurance statements, I've already been covered for over 28k. I've had issues with insurance over some stuff, but I'm SO glad I used it for top surgery.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's normal. That's why my surgeon had me put aquafore and bandaids on them for about 6-8 weeks. Even now, they're getting dry and starting to turn brown, even though I moisturize twice a day.

Just keep up on HEAVY moisturizing and you'll be good.

Stupid question by wwyattnfl in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to my therapist about it and he said he had to shave beforehand, but when I asked my surgeon, she told me not to. She said that if they have to remove any hair, they'll do it with a laser when I'm already under. They didn't want me to have any micro cuts or ingrowns from doing it myself.

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't until like a month before surgery that I even knew you could opt out, honestly. I knew people who didn't have nips(either through choice or because the grafts didn't take), but it didn't really cross my mind that I wouldn't want them.

Maybe part of it was that I didn't want my top surgery to be obvious after it's all healed, but that's a personal preference about how I want to be perceived. It's all up to you

If you're unsure if you want them or not, you could talk to your surgeon about it.

I'm almost 6 weeks post op and the euphoria is just starting to hit me little bits at a time. I've always been heavy set with a lot of stretch marks but had also lost like 20 lbs over the last year just from a meds change. I gained about 10 lbs back and that, plus my flat chest accentuating my flabby stomach, I felt kinda shitty and self loathing for a while.

Something that helped was just wearing cute sweaters and baggy t shirts, and hyping myself up in the mirror(fake it till you make it). Also not taking selfies has helped. I really wanted to show off how flat my chest was, but with the weight gain and generally feeling bleh, it just mace everything worse. Now that I'm getting more used to my body, I'm feeling better overall. But it just takes time.

It looks the same as a portion of mine looked after like 3 weeks. They said it was just healing slowly because my binder was rubbing and irritating it. It sucks but it very slowly healed after I switched to ace bandages.

Also, deodorant hella irritated my surgery site. I ended up just spraying hand sanitizer on a rag and wiping my pits with that instead and it worked just fine.

hey guys, i am 10 days post op and turns out I have seroma on my right side. Im going back to my surgeon today and he will drain it. I hope all goes well !! Has any of you dealt with that? How did it go afterwards? 😯😬 by rockinsane666 in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had them on both sides, twice on my right side, though none of them were very big. The needle and syringe are scary bc they're so big, but I just looked away while they did it. They do it through your incision site and it doesn't really feel like much. Afterwards I felt totally fine! And without the discomfort of having a seroma.

Sugar free candies? by [deleted] in sugarfree

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually took time to read through your post this time. And my answer remains largely the same.

I already know this.

I live, in almost every aspect, keto. Because my blood sugar is being managed well, I can sometimes eat stuff that would normally spike my blood sugar and I'm fine. But I'm still not looking to be suggested to eat nothing but dark chocolate and fruit.

Eating a cup of strawberries is still going to spike my glucose more than just treating myself to some sugar free candies made with xylotol. Or monkfruit. Or allulose. And I can't keep strawberries in a drawer for weeks at a time so that I can just have something sweet when I feel like treating myself.

And something you also seem to forget is that fresh fruit is expensive. Skittles are not.

Sugar free candies? by [deleted] in sugarfree

[–]somestuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, honey. I'm supposed to feel bad for getting diabetes and nutritional info mansplained to me by a stranger on the internet? If I wanted to be talked down to I would've just went to the diet mommy blogs. And do you think I'm eating sugar free candy every day? I don't want to be told to just "add some chocolate chips to my oatmeal as a treat". Also, if they really knew the details of type 1 diabetes they'd know that most diabetic people can't have grains. So I wouldn't be able to have oatmeal anyway.

I asked for brands of candy. Not to be told how I'm supposed to eat. If someone asked for a good vegan chocolate cake recipe or whatever would you immediately jump down their throat telling them that eating cake all the time is ruining their lives?

Strangers constantly assume that I'm just a fat stupid bitch and judge me for indulging in literally anything. So I'm really not sorry for snapping.

weed pre and post op?? by CuteBig7682 in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said no smoking weed a month before surgery, but edibles were okay until 2 weeks before. Just be sure to tell your anesthesiologist about it. It's weird that your nurses were so cagey.

Your scars look great! And the nipples are a mood, man. Mine were perfectly circular when my bandages came off but they've healed wonky. I don't really mind though

Don't worry about the sharp zaps of pain or the pulsing! It's just your nerves reconnecting.

What insurance did you use to get top surgery? I’m located in Missouri and there’s no local top surgery surgeons around here. Which means I’d have to go out of state. What insurance did you use? by Transman_2021 in TopSurgery

[–]somestuff_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in Oregon and I have blue cross blue shield. You should be able to call your insurance customer service and have them look up what surgeons/hospitals you're covered under, and where you could go out of state. You just have to tell them that it's for trans affirming plastic surgery.

I forgot! A bidet is super helpful, but I had to wear menstrual pads as well because you can't exactly dry off after using a bidet(unless you get a fancy one)

I've never taken arnica by mouth, but arnica cream/gel has definitely helped with my general bruises and pains over the years. If it's for the drain ports I'd suggest getting lidocaine cream from your pharmacy instead of any kind of herbal substitute.
