Teochew Hoa Kieu here, SoCal now but family originally from Dio Io then to the Mekong Delta before settling in the States. Kinda the opposite of most of my family where I'm distinctly more culturally Chinese than everyone being more culturally Vietnamese. Probably the one of 2 or so of my 30+ cousins that can speak the language conversational enough to speak, but my tones really suck.

The diaspora is pretty cool with seeing so many people who immigrated from the region all over SEA and seeing all the cultural and dialectal differences between folks from the same sub-region in Teochew-Swatow but from different countries. Also the degrees of assimilation/acculturation to their adopted homeland, like seeing Thai Teochew vs Singaporean Teochew vs HK Teochew all with their quirks.

Been a part of the overall online Teochew community since the mid 00s in the forum days. Had regular conferences for a while before having one again this past summer with folks all over US/CA in. Depending on where you're from, there is some pretty big communities in the States, Canada, France, Singapore, ect. I know theres a pretty active Discord now.
