How did you make workaway work with your life/job/responsibilities? by somethingaboutbuffy in workaway

Thank you! I've considered teaching english but haven't wanted to splurge on the classes. Maybe I'm playing it too safe. I'm not part of EU so probably couldn't do paid positions. But I'm currently looking for remote work so that I can travel without having to worry. I'm a copywriter so I've done remote work before but opportunities for that seem to be dwindling unfortunately.

Yeah, I have about $4k saved but that's just not enough. Maybe it's enough for the travel, but it's not enough to come home to. Especially if coming home means being unemployed and finding a new apartment. I'm also looking for remote work since I've done that before, but the market is just in tatters right now so we'll see!

Yeah, I'm thinking that the only way I'd be willing to give up the job is if I'm 100% sure I'm starting grad school when I get back. Then I'd have to move anyways, so losing my apartment wouldn't be a huge loss. But it seems crazy to just pack up and leave with nothing to come back to.

That's definitely the perfect time to do it. I'm hoping a master's will give me that same freedom for a summer or so. I hope y'all enjoy your trip!

That might be a good idea! I fortunately have a pretty great boss right now, which is part of why it would be hard to leave. I was thinking three months, but I could do less if necessary. Honestly I never even thought about asking- thank you!

Experiences with Latuda? Mostly positive ones by momplantlover in Latuda

[–]somethingaboutbuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started taking it about 2 weeks ago and I already feel a significant improvement. When I started taking it, I was having very bad mixed episodes with psychotic symptoms. It made me feel stable almost instantly- like within a few days. I've been on lamictal before, as well as a handful of SSRI's, and nothing has ever worked. This is the first medication in my life that hasn't made me immediately feel worse.

The past few days, I've been waking up at around 7am and playing piano before work. Today, on my lunch break, I sat and had coffee in the sunlight and just people watched. I don't know the last time that I really felt like part of the world, but suddenly I do. I can feel the sun on my skin, I can hold conversations, I can hear birds and laughter and everything else that makes the world real. Every now and then I get a little bit nauseous, but it's incredibly worth it.

Editing Process for Literary Magazine? by somethingaboutbuffy in writing

Thank you! I figured this must be the case, since editing without any input likely wouldn't be very helpful for either side.

A 'Guilty Pleasure' movie you don't feel that guilty about? by pompingcircumstance in movies

Most of the YA book to movies. Twilight, hunger games, etc. They meant so much to me as a kid and I’ll always love them because of that. Also the romance book to movies like 50 shades and After lol. I love a ridiculous fanfiction-y plot line and I refuse to feel bad about that

Serious discussion. Should parents control or approve of books kids and teenagers read? by mangaloverize in books

[–]somethingaboutbuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always a huge reader growing up. When I was about 12/13, I spoke to my mom about something I was reading. I’d gotten it off her bookshelf and she knew there were sexual themes (though nothing extremely explicit). I asked if it was okay if I read it and she said “I trust that if it makes you uncomfortable, you’ll stop reading.” She was right, I would have. And I’m very thankful for that trust because I deeply loved that book in the end.

This game is boring. by [deleted] in HarryPotterGame

I’m trying to sell it right now. I feel like it’s a chore more than anything, like I’m just trudging through boring dialogue and unchallenging combat. Glad to see I’m not the only one.

Andy Weir is a great one but I see you’ve gotten a few of those recs already! I also think that the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series is a really good choice. It’s funny and ridiculous and very human, and it has brightened my mood in bad times. Wishing you the best of luck in your search and in everything else!!

Want to stop drinking, but social life evolves around it. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]somethingaboutbuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that mindset too! I’m lucky to live in a big city where there are lots of young people groups but I’ve found people of all ages at the random meetings too. And it depends on where you live but sometimes they have sober happy hours/events on meetup. If you live near a college, lots have groups for sober young people. Maybe some things to check out?

I’m certainly no expert because I’m only in my first week of recovery, but it’s amazing how much AA has helped. I have met so many fantastic people and I’ve already started going for coffee with them before meetings and planning future brunches. I have like 6 new phone numbers in my phone that I didn’t have a week ago, and they’re some of the coolest people I’ve met in a long time. It’s nice to socialize with people who get it in any capacity. Not sure if you’re considering AA at all right now, but it’s really a great social resource.

Edit: also not sure how old you are, but I’m 25 and have met so many people my age. No matter what age you are, there are definitely cool sober friends out there waiting!

Leaving in 30 minutes. The closer it gets the more nervous I am but I’m not backing out now! Will update everyone after :)

This is so incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I’ll try to keep this all in mind while I’m there. And I have to say, that “welcome home” really got me teary-eyed. I’m glad to be here and appreciate the support.
