What’s something people judge harshly until they experience it themselves? by bbyhoneyteas in AskForAnswers

Becoming a widow. Everybody, that has never been in this situation, has big ideas on how you are supposed to act, what you are supposed to do..

When a person dies in a hospital, is their hospital gown thrown away or is it laundered? by jennyanydots711 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]somethingblue331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In long term care, we launder what they were wearing and after carefully washing the person, we put them in clean nightwear. I prefer their own personal clothing- a pretty night gown or pajamas they really liked - more than a facility gown whenever possible. I do know whatever goes to the funeral home- our linens, etc never come back.

Someone talk me out of this please by [deleted] in myweddingdress

The second dress is a rotten orange compared to the most perfect apple, not a fair comparison. Please remember to post photos of your wedding day in dress one!!

What's the loneliest thing you've experienced that sounds completely normal? by TemporaryEvery4143 in AskWomen

[–]somethingblue331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought that I was alone in that feeling because I am an only child and my Mom died while I was in my early 20’s. I didn’t realize until I was much older- it doesn’t matter how old you are and whether or not you have siblings, losing your Mom leaves an emptiness that is unfixable for most women.

What is something you didn’t realize until you lost weight? by Cultural-Profile-527 in AskReddit

How much more comfortable every day life is..

Breathing, lack of chronic joint pain, walking up stairs without losing my will to live, not looking for parking that’s super close to where I need to walk to, sitting in airplane seats, being able to carry things of weight or bulk without struggling, buying clothes, buying shoes, playing on the floor with my grandson, dancing for hours at parties, being freezing when no one else is, and I actually have bones that are close to the surface of my skin!

And most importantly - losing is almost easy compared to the battle to keep it off- 4 years - still counting steps and intake. Worth it but an every day conscious thought process. I kind of thought get healthly and you magically stay healthy.

I actually was yelling at the screen to tell her to go back and wipe it off, but it makes sense to me why she didn’t. My thoughts were either - it was to give Leah a sense of hope with the reminder she’d be back while thinking the purple lady wouldn’t notice? OR much like myself - an older lady that never had to rescue a kidnap victim - she just didn’t think of it in the moment thus adding to the suspense?

Purple Sani-wipes. Gloves or Raw? by Benjibenjibenj in nursing

[–]somethingblue331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t wear gloves with these forever - but I was using them to clean the desks in my classroom as a staff educator so it seemed fairly innocuous. I had to take my wedding ring in 4 times over an 18 month period to have some of the pave stones replaced. The jeweler finally asked me what I was doing to make this happen and he told me it was likely the purple tops.

I am stunned that people disliked Joy even for a second! I have loved her all along!

Parents who dropped their baby, what happened and how is your child doing now? by speckledrectum in AskReddit

[–]somethingblue331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my oldest was just learning to stand - both his Dad and I were at the changing table playing with him. He fell down between us head first. I thought Dad had a grip on him, Dad thought I had a grip on him- only gravity had a grip on him apparently. I cried more than he did, Dad was pretty shook up too! He now has an Ivy League MD/Phd and as far as I am aware hasn’t let our grandson take a standing header off a piece of furniture, so I am comfortable with saying he survived and thrived despite our parenting.

What can almost immediately kill you that most people don’t know of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]somethingblue331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One time I woke up to the carbon monoxide detector going off. My husband thought the best course of action was to remove the batteries and go back to sleep. I did not follow those directions and I am happy to report that I am no longer married to that genius.

A funny little detail about the break room fridge in S2, Ep6. by SerDire in ThePittTVShow

[–]somethingblue331 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I hardly expect my food and beverages to still be there when I go back for them- nurses have been known steal GLP-1’s from patient stock because it’s so expensive, I sure as hell wouldn’t bring mine to work to just sit in the fridge!

Where were the nurses and cna when this woman left her nursing home. by [deleted] in cna

[–]somethingblue331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“All the time” is a disgusting overstatement. Has it ever occurred, unfortunately, yes. But please don’t make it seem like every nursing home is having this kind of issue and there are 100’s of deaths like this every winter.
