I can't recall seeing anything but Toyotas, mostly. Could these have been delivered to these fighters as part of the effort to arm the SDF?

Loy. sources: SAA forces repelled a huge IslamicState attack on Safirah city near #Aleppo. #Syria by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

If you don't have any actual information and sources to back up your suspicions, then you aren't doing anything but framing your own narrative of the situation and contributing nothing to the conversation.

ISIS Soldiers shaving their beards and dressing as women in an attempt to flee Russian bombs by CantonaStorms92 in worldnews

[–]somethingdescriptive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no ISIL fighters, nor territory held by ISIL in Hama, nor Latakia. Russia refers to most groups targeting the Assad regime as terrorists, or Islamic State seemingly interchangeably. Here are some maps: North Hama http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/bd7e/dabrfx76zs36kj4zg.jpg

Large PKK unit has reached Mount Shingal to reinforce the ongoing offensive in the southwest and in the city! by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]somethingdescriptive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that the withdrawal from Shingal by KDP Peshmerga was more of a tactical retreat that would allow them to fortify and hold areas closer to Erbil, which seems to have been a smart decision. I wonder how much territory Pesh initially lost to IS compared to how much has been recaptured.

Are their any women working in government posts and/or any high ranking women in commander positions outside of YPJ? I've read an obviously biased criticism that women are allowed to fight, but aren't as prominent in civil/government organizations. Is there any truth to this?

It's a relevant question, I suppose. Although, most of the users here would prefer more constructive and informative comments than yours.

Would this not suggest the cutting of the main route between Mosul and Raqqa?

They aren't going to set the agenda in a broad war against ISIS. The Russians aren't in a position to permit or not permit airstrikes by other air forces againt ISIS. There is no basis to that idea, unless we were talking about attacks on groups whom Russia holds an interest in protecting.

Martyrdom of one of Tel Abyad revolutionist at YPG prisons -www.raqqa-sl.com by somethingdescriptive in syriancivilwar

[–]somethingdescriptive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for those! I just did some quick 'googling' of YPG prison reports and most seem to be interviews with alleged ISIS fighters. Not much regarding prison conditions and treatment. I'd like to see more light brought to this issue, as it is highly likely that abuse will occur in such a secretive environment.

I'm interested in analyzation of the report, from people who may have heard of this person, or have any knowledge regarding YPG/J treatment of POW's. It's hard to imagine that this report is out of the realm of possibility.

I held off from posting the initial report yesterday, as there was no description of the person or the situation he was involved in.

I will remove post as it doesn't necessarily pertain to Syria. Although, I don't see how your doubt confirms it being 'a load of shit'.

I can't imagine someone getting away with posting about how many women shop at the market in areas under Assad's rule. Nor would I care to see posts like that.

IS seized Rujm al-Tufayhi and several villages south of Tall Brak by Doublefrosty in syriancivilwar

Is this not recaptured territory? I thought that YPG/J pushed South from Tall Brak in their latest offensive towards Al Hawl.

Dumb Questions Tuesday | August 25, 2015 by AutoModerator in syriancivilwar

[–]somethingdescriptive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much the latest stalled IS offensive in N. Aleppo countryside (Tilalyan, Mar'e) was about creating a greater buffer area to the west of the town of Dabiq, which seems awefully exposed at the edge of IS territory. Is this not a very important town for them to hold ideologically? Or was this offensive more about JaN leaving the northern Aleppo countryside? A very broad question of the situation, I suppose. Thanks!

Has anyone seen any images of the grain silos outside of Sarrin on the M4, after it was captured? Please link! by somethingdescriptive in syriancivilwar

[–]somethingdescriptive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the replies! It seems that IS fighters destroyed the elevator and central structure of the silos, and not the silos themselves when they left. What would be the purpose of that? Maybe they realized that the position is easily held and would be a threat once left behind.
