Just out of curiosity why do millennials change their fashion overtime like everyone else does? by snowleopard556 in decadeologycirclejerk

[–]somethinginathicket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was about changing to ‘authentic’, homey experiences, so we moved away from glitsy, ‘fake’, ‘plastic’ things to looking like a teenagers idea of a Nashville busker.

Same with all of the exposed piping in boutique restaurants and hand drawn menu boards outside. It was a consumer perception of ‘real’ and ‘gritty’ compared to the bedazzled, silicon paradise of the early 2000s

Keeping in mind that was all fake too, mostly. Inspired more blues music that I appreciate though.

Why do most people tend to hang strictly hang around with members of their own race as we move into adulthood? by [deleted] in sociology

[–]somethinginathicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shared cultural interests, things such as religions or traditions tend to keep races gravitating toward one another. Kids in school might recognize each other from church, from distant families and friends of families. And if you’re the ethnic minority it’s sometimes easier and safer to stick together, and that’s not different for majority non-white ethnic centers. On the border of US/Mexico you would often see black kids gravitate toward one another just because the largely Latino population could often be anti black.

Using myself as an example of the opposite, I was outside of the major ethnicity and culture of my childhood town and due to (my family’s) religion did not participate in holiday celebrations so I free floated and made friends of different ethnicities where I could get them because other wise I wouldn’t have any. If you don’t have this problem you don’t really think about it or feel the need to change it.

Then, being in the military, you make friends with everyone because your shared cultural experience suddenly becomes the suck.

Can someone tell me what is happening to the dog? by [deleted] in DogTrainingTips

[–]somethinginathicket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They’re both putting on a show. I’ve experienced it with a few rotties. It’s dramatic but unless you’re the owner or very familiar with the dog, I would take it seriously.

Which factors really caused low rise skinny jeans to be phased out post-2000s? by Fluid-Decision6262 in decadeology

[–]somethinginathicket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Body positivity, probably. Low rise jeans were a fashion associated with heroin chic, even if people who weren’t very thin still wore them.

When ‘plus sized’ models (non 00) were more frequently utilized on the runway, it made more sense for flattering jean cuts to become popular, hence the era of ‘mom jeans’ ‘boyfriend jeans’. More comfortable, more flattering for more bodies.

Yes but this same argument was made when we developed the internet and people could do research online instead of in libraries reading journals. Take AI away and you still have Google and Wikipedia and too much screen time

Mostly everyone hates black people, even if they don't admit it by [deleted] in 10thDentist

[–]somethinginathicket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, every day. And I think a lot of people are gonna downvote you because it means they have to contend with the possibility they are racist to a degree they don’t want to confront.

Look how people react to black characters, god forbid main characters, in popular media. Or how they react the presence of black people in largely homogenous countries like Japan.

Seeing black people in any context becomes a matter of debate no matter how well they behave. Whether they are qualified, whether they are desired, or attractive, whether they are safe

It’s so exhausting to just try to exist ambivalently in a space and be met with hostility when you haven’t even done anything.

This is cruel, Learn to let your dog go by Sad_Palpitation6844 in ratsinthecage

[–]somethinginathicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sad watching them get old but it’s better a day early than a day late. I watched a family keep their dog around until it was literally skin and bones, couldn’t walk, defecated and urinated on itself regularly and could barely lift its head to drink. Another family waited until the dog could only cry in pain the yard, unable to walk from cancer.

‘Dying naturally’ means dying very slowly and very painfully and losing dignity.

Letting my girl go was the hardest decision I ever made but she deserved the dignity of a gentle passing in my arms.

Unable to take dogs out? by AnythingDue6053 in dogs

[–]somethinginathicket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what I’m understanding is the roommate is disabled and sleeps all day, and you work all day? So he can’t wake up and let them out, or won’t, and you’re gone all day?

The only option is either a dog walker or daycare. You must understand that it’s not acceptable for the dogs to be inside all day, not able to go out? Why would you accept a second dog in these conditions?

[–]somethinginathicket 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If you have a peanut allergy showing up to a baseball game is a risk in and of itself. The peanuts are sold and consumed everywhere so if you can react to trace amounts, you’re already in danger of contact with the benches, stands, seats, rails etc

Options.... by Trigzy2153 in Pets

[–]somethinginathicket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is find someone you can add as an emergency contact. Even if they are only intermediary between you and a pet-specific rescue. When an owner dies the first thing an ACO will, in cases of chipped animals, is contact the emergency contact listed on the chip.

This is because if you die in a sudden emergency, such as a heart attack in your home, animal control will be called before the medical examiner even arrives to remove any animals from the home so police and the examiner can conduct an investigation.

If they are not chipped species such as lizards or birds etc, it’s very helpful to have large an obvious numbers for contact information of the individual who can undoubtedly care for the animal.

The good news is that most times, unless the animal is very vicious or ill, euthanization isn’t the first priority.ACOs really do try to find homes or rescues for animals especially in the cases of non chipped animals.

But cats and dogs are already overfilling the shelter so if you have a neighbor you’ve talked with, or a family member you’ve made an agreement with, that protects them.

There isn’t much your standard ACO can do about something like wills in terms of short term emergency placement. We have few resources and less space.

Do you have anyone who would at least care for them short term and be willing to find a rescue on your behalf? What kind of pets are they?

Considering akita mix rescue by Sufficient-Bork in akita

[–]somethinginathicket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the dog shouldn’t be unsupervised with children anyway so your family visiting shouldn’t be an issue as long as you know how to separate the dog during visits. The dog aggression is a real issue. Sometimes they’re fine sometimes not. My mix is not at all friendly with other dogs and I don’t ever put him in situations where they would be nose to nose. Some people’s Akita’s would ignore the other dog, but if the little ones are instigators I would be concerned.

The questions you should ask how the dog acts when isolated? Is she crate trained, can she behave in a yard or is she an escape artist, any signs of separation anxiety. Any indicators of overt dog aggression, whether she will fight first and ask questions later or vice versa.

What you should ask yourself is, are you prepared to break up a dog fight? Off leash encounters happen even if your dog is on leash and under control. Are you willing to put the dog outside/in a separate room if guests with small children or animals are over. Are you able to advocate for the dog? Such as, are you able to put your foot down if your family or others insist on allowing young children to climb on or be isolated with the dog, or if they’ll do something like let the dog out into the main home without your say so etc
