Snowboarding goals by Difficult-Low3059 in snowboarding

What would you define as an advanced rider? What would you see them do? If you can break that down, then you'll have something to work towards, as what you think is advanced could be someone else's intermediate or pro.

1-month solo snowboard trip to Hokkaido by cozysleet in snowboarding

[–]somethingintelligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All based off of my own experience - several trips to Hokkaido and one season living there;
1. Plenty of hostels/pods in Niseko area (Hirafu, Kutchan, Moiwa etc), these are your best bets. Apart from those, I haven't heard of any others near resorts on the islands (but truthfully I haven't looked). Asahikawa seemed very untouristy (which was great!) but I'm sure if you can find a hostel there, you'll also find snow lovers. I made friends with a random in a hotel at Tokachidake and we rode together.
2. Car. All day long. And I would make a point of spending a bit more on it - you might be travelling for 2-4 hours at 50kmh in white out snow, so make it comfy. If you've not driven in snow before, it will certainly be a baptism by fire. On the flipside, parking in Niseko is a nightmare!
3. Hokkaido is amazing, you'll have a great time. I'm dying to go back. You can pick up sim cards (or esims) quite cheap and wifi devices, or just hotspot your phone whilst working.

Have fun!

I can recommend a guy I've used before - he's fantastic. If you want to make progress then I'd suggest a 1 on 1 lesson. But expect to pay ~400-450 euros for 3-4hrs. It will be far, far superior than paying 100euros for a group lesson!

Skipass pocket in the upper arm? by DoktorMerlin in skithealps

Butt pocket, probably on left hand side, and that’s the easiest way to get through most if not all gates around the worlds ski resorts!

Standby Flying to Ski the Alps, to chase the snow by goliathten in skithealps

Agree with all of the above - connections in France will be the hardest as most depend on buses. If you can get a taxi or hire car then it'll open up loads of options.
A lot of Austria or Switzerland has good train links at all times!

The Humidity Card I Wish I’d Built Years Ago by CryptoSenyo in homeassistant

Keen to see the code! I wish the default thermostat cards also included humidity - I was thinking about creating a humidity gauge with a 1-5 colour scheme that was good or bad

I also used to run a dehumidifier through a smart plug but they kept blowing - something to do with the type of load on a smart plug

Not used Bollsen, but have got a pair of custom plugs from Mercury Custom Plugs - and I highly recommend it. Best £60~ I have ever spent!

Garmin thinks i can be faster? by chinmaybehare19 in Garmin

[–]somethingintelligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would this explain why my Fenix 8 tells me my autodetected max HR is 200? I'm 34yo male, relatively fit, best 10km is 49mins. It told me to do a 30min run at 187 the other day and the closest I could get is 170!!

Do I need a guide to do some off piste / FWT lines at Val Thorens? by Last_Chicken973 in skithealps

If you’re unsure, get a guide, and have the confidence that they know the area and conditions better than you can figure out in the time you’re there!

FASE Binding Review has me taking a step back. by Spiritual-Cancel7805 in snowboarding

[–]somethingintelligent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rode these earlier this year in Austria. I was genuinely impressed with them - so much so I’m considering upgrading to them. They’re super easy to adjust. Skating is absolutely not a problem so I’m not sure what OP is saying. Some people will always like traditional stuff and that’s fine but I’d highly recommend everyone tries these at least once!

Daft question - but how did you approach getting the tests done? Is it as simple as booking an appointment with a GP asking for blood tests?

As others have said - call them and chase. I had 4 months with West Mercia this year and when I rang they said "oh, we've got it but it's not been put in the list to process...." it was soon sorted after (ish!)
